The images went bust (my server's hard disk went bust) but here some fresh ones! The old barn where my car is at, is getting sold so i need to get the kadett back on its feet... which provided a nice mojo boost Working on the front axle parts... lower wishbone and the knuckle that holds them on. And below that, the crossmember that needs a big hole filled. The hole that needs to be filled: One cardboard template: 2 cardboards templates Cut out of 1mm sheet metal: Folding: Fitted: Other side only needed one piece, and didn't turn out as nice as the other side. Metalworking is fun welding isn't my strong side yet though... pictures of pidgeon-poo mixed in with some proper welds will show up here in a few days :-)

thanks C's are lovely indeed! Koen on the forum here (from belgium as well) has a C sedan which is coming together nicely! Car got moved today. The old farm where it stood was sold so it's now in my own garage. Its a bit cramped for space but it relieves me of a 10km drive, so any 30 mins I have to spare can go to this baby! silly pics of the move:

The sills should get all the attention at the moment, since they are kind of important to get this heap of rust on the road asap... but i haven't welded in a while so i needed a warm-up. This is the front of the car, off-side corner next to where the grill is supposed to sit. Badly rusted and in dire need of repair. The spare piece didn't have a proper fit so after about 45 mins of fettling and hammering, it fits like a glove I got some copper piping (smashed and/or cut open) to use as a backing for welding (which is for tomorrow) Sorry for the crappy mobile pics... will use a better camera tomorrow (or get better lighting conditions)

Yeah keep the updates coming david , it's going to be a great car when it's done . Your welding can only improve with practice

Your welding is improving, your tacks are very good with excellent penetration
The white smoke is the coating burning off the steel, it normally happens on Zinc coated or galvanised steel, so your car steel must have something in it

A small update Finally descided to order David gardner's DVD to get better at this I went ahead and cut some corners on the piece below... i stepped the edge so i could lapweld these instead of buttweld, which is now proving to be a pain in the a@#... because i can't properly clamp a big stretch like that its not properly held together. resulting in a lower panel that needs a lot of heat to melt and an upper panel (the old metal) that explodes at the slightest heat. This is going to be a fun one... The end piece needs some work to fit better but i'm generally pretty happy with how these pieces are coming along

It was a warmer day today and didn't feel like working. So had some more metal fun! My apologies for the blurry pictures. they're taken with my mobile phone... On the menu... driver side inner fender tip and the lockplate. Here's what i started out with: some stuff removed: First patch: Very slight curve globally and ends with a tighter curve. I'm glad to say it wasn't that hard to make Fitting: Now it's time to try some new advice that was given on a metalshaping forum ... Welding wasn't done on my usual 2 or 3 setting, but this time its on 4. The result was AMAZING:eek: A quick zap provided proper penetration, with a very low bead protruding. Grinding it off was a breeze! Only 1 disadvantage i've quickly found... any place where the gap is too large, ever so slightly. Or the metal isn't in pristine condition... BOOM. big hole  I've plugged these on setting 3 with a copper backing. My first 2 tacks: In between every 2nd or 3rd tack i ground down the proud and gave it a whack with hammer and dolly (i have yet to test straightness and see how much it exactly does, but visually there was change) Welding isn't done yet but it's getting there... after a quick sand with 240 grit (only thing within reach) Evidently... you can see the blown holes. What puzzles me is the circles around the tacks... is that a crack, not enough ground down or... basicly i don't have a clue... can anyone enlighten me? Next patch is ready too I enjoyed today. made 3 little patches but all of em had a 'shape' to them. I managed to make all 3 without too much trouble. I'm very pleased with that
