Ooo XJ12, I'm jelous of that! As for the naff auto enrichment thats been removed and replaced with a standard manual choke thank god! So My idea might not be quite so mad as it sounds.... lol Don't be too jealous of the XJ12... 6mpg anybody? It's currently off the road having the screen surrounds and roof rebuilt. Be back soon though, and its going to kill my wallet using it for work for a while. Any long trip in a Jag is an adventure. Despite us all claiming that they're reliable if looked after there's always that nagging doubt that stops us (look around the internet and see how many stories of "I took my Jag out for a long drive" there aren't...) We bought the XJ12 back from Uxbridge to Chesterfield, and lost the brakelights, the wipers, the fan clutch packed up and the distributor advance seized... but it was still fun! Go for it.... but please write it up after! Regards Ric

Getting a great car in England and just driving it from there seems like a very sane plan to me (As I stated elsewhere on this forum I'm seriously considering doing something similar and I live a lot further away from England)

That's bloody cool.
Are you going to be doing any modifications to the suspension? It is going to be a cruiser or a sportscar?
I once had the fortune of driving a Series III E-Type for about ten miles (I used to work as a filter-spinner in a classic-friendly garage, it broke down and we went to rescue it) and I have to say, I didn't like it that much. Extremely boaty handling, the steering was far too light, and it was very uncomfortable (my feet were both cramped and set on fire by the engine heat, and the indicator stalk jabbed me in the knee). It was bloody quick in a straight line though.

Nice !!! ;D Wheres that going to live then....... Well thats a very good question that is floating around the "I haven't got a clue" part of the plan. CRX is coming over to Germany, so there is space in the Barn but I am getting close to taking the biscuit! So I'll probably have a chat with Naser to see if he wants to sell the mini and then I take over his share, unless the Kadett is moving anytime soon! I think we can safely say the curse of the barn is back, I don't want to cut my losses on the Minx so I guess I'll just figure something out! As for the handling E-types were not known for it, or good brakes or gearboxs etc etc. But these things have redressed a few of those issues due to 10 years more developed part. But in all honesty its a cruising and posing car, to go fast on a country lane I have the CRX, to go fast on a track I have the Escort, and at some point I might even have the Superminx to go fast on the motorway (actually that'd beat this plan in terms of madness!) ;D

Halibrands are nice, as are Dunlops, and moons are an interesting idea, but here is the current leading in my mind, bit of a mixture of them all, and will be different on an E Its going to need new tyres anyway cos the ones on it are 10years old! Oh and I just had an email from what really must be the nicest car seller I've ever know. Today he checked all the fluids, did an engine oil and filter change, tuned the engine and then taxed it for me ;D Thing is I'm starting to feel guilty now!

I think that needs some obscene Chevy pattern slot mags or something This gets my vote! There was a Series 1 coupe on US eBay recently that had aftermarket '60s American wheels (to match the SBC under the bonnet) & it looked superb!
