Paul from the Viva forum hasn't got back to me yet regarding the engine builder he knows for my stage 3 head. errr remind me what I am supposed to be doing I have a memory like a fish....ohhhh look shiny things (wanders off) Different Paul, don't worry although you have just reminded me I need to contact Adrian re gearbox end caps, so thanks Man that front end looks gorgeous now! I was going to say "your front end" but that's got all sort of connotations attached..... I had never even contemplated taking the whole front end out and have sat for many hours squirmed up into the wheel arch trying to do all that work! Ha, i'm an idiot! Greenstuff pads are always a little glimmer there to cheer you up, now as Carmad said, if only I can do some work on my own................... Thanks Leigh. Really encouraging to get feedback like that so glad it finally feels like it's coming together and making progress too. Can't say I'd like to take the front end off again too soon and not looking forward to the engine swap and cleaning up the engine bay. Although the plan is to do a much more in depth strip and rebuild in 3 years or so anyway. Will see where I get to tomorrow but the current weather isn't helping paint drying time maybe I'll get to start on the red one

That's the spirit, keep at it when you're in the mood man. I keep promising the Magnum that once the GT and GT6 are sold that it is getting my undivided attention! Bushes are on the next "to-do" list, how were yours? My front wishbone ones are fairly perished. As a side note, I think you've lowered this similar to mine so if you want to see the 'settled' ride height you could check it out. Great buzz about seeing it dop so low isnt it! How are you for jack space?

My bushes have been very good so far. Everything fits well and was fairly easy to get in on the front. The rear might be a bit more of a challenge as the poly rear arm bushes aren't split, so they're going to need a bit of extra persuasion. Also the back upper rear arm bush is on the axle, not the arm which is going to make it more of a pain to get off and get the new one on. Will be looking at the axle tomorrow.
Thanks, will take a look at yours. It is a great feeling seeing it low for the first time. Going to make speed bumps interesting/impossible. Jack space isn't great at all. I couldn't get a conventional trolley jack under it with standard suspension and the ultralights. Low profile jack is on my christmas list

Why do we bother!

Not entirely sure. With the state of roads and amount of speed bumps it is a very silly idea, but never mind. I'm not going to change and love a lowered car Can you link me to your magnum? I can't find it.

Not much opportunity for progress today. Got the axle cleaned up and a quick coat of paint. Didn't find a way to pull the pushes out so had to drill and cut through the rubber then beat the metal insert out. This just sheared the bolt It's fairly tidy under there, just a few rusty patches that need to be cleaned then it'll be waxoyld in the summer

Shame about the sheared bolt but it happens. The rear looks tidy enough, I had one little hole on the wheelarch where itsits against the rear seat base if that makes sense? Couldnt hurt to check yours there when ur at it. I'll PM you the magnum link

The only hole is in the spare wheel well. I think I know what you're talking about and have a concern in the same place on the other side. It's a bit crunchy but I don't think it's a hole yet. The wire brush will tell me soon enough. It has had a plate on that side of the wheel arch by the seat belt mounting point, and is going crusty not far from there. Other side's a bit messy but not nowhere near as crunchy. So they're things to sort out in the summer, as they have been the last two summers. I really need to actually do it this time

Counter weights? you tell me! My dad and I have been trying to work it out, they're just bolted on to the axle. The O/S one is made to be at an angle going out to the wheels as well, and one is bigger than the other. I presume other HCs have them?

Could they be helpers or something - for when it's heavily loaded? But looking at it, there would be nothing for them to push off on would there? Plus they're pointing downwards.. hmmm... i'd be interested if anyone knows

Snow anyone? Makes a Viva that little bit chunkier Luckily nearly all the work I did today was in the garage attached to the house so I had this to keep me toasty Didn't have too much time today, largely thanks to my girlfriend turning my alarm off Had lots of fun (not) farting about getting the bushes in on the rear arms. These are the only bushes that aren't split so are a pig to do but got there in the end. So then on to the rear axle bushes for the upper trailing arms. Got them in just far enough with a BFH to then use the left overs of the sheered bolt from last week, chamfered the broken end and cleaned the thread up. Found a couple of M10 nuts and created this Managed to get the first fully on and moved on to the other. After a short while the nut started slipping and doing curse word all. Ah Cut the end off and chamfered and cleaned it up again but it wasn't working and just stripped the thread again. So that bolt has finally turned its last, long may it rest in pieces. So will have to find another method/bolt to finish the job tomorrow. Also tomorrow I'll replace the gearbox rear oil seal, finally finish front fog wiring, and drill a hole in the gearbox tunnel to run the wire through for the reverse light. Now due back on 4 wheels next week as I ordered the gearbox end cover for the reverse switch too late and it hasn't come yet can't wait to have a car again!
