generally detesting the modern 'Sportpack' wheels This is half the reason why I ruled them out in the first place. I strongly dislike them on Minis, but was pleasantly surprised when I fitted them. I was thinking about paint schemes, black centres wouldn't work any more because of the lack of dish, but white is an idea and a half! Depends on what the girlfriend says though

New shoes? 13x6 ET+22, 175/70r13 Yoko A-drive. So far the fronts don't catch on the arches at all...just fingers crossed! And while I'm here, as I was playing with the idea of white lettering the tyres. Yokohama one side and A-drive the other, with the outline raised. Do you think it would look any good with either the inside or the raised outline painted?

I like the wheels and the car, just not a great fan of the lack of space between the wheels and body, never understood the need to lower a car its just sheeple at the end of the day to me.
10/10 for the car and wheels.....don't get me wrong I love the car, and white is one of the best colours for a HC...

Hmm Lovely car! Viva's always look great in white whereas so many other cars just don't.
I have to agree somewhat with PB I think it needs to come up an inch all round to really compliment the wheel choice (and probably give you a better ride too?

Looks spot on at that height to me, Vivas always look far too high even when they're lowered the usual amount, yours looks much better.

Honestly, I much preferred the superlites but if these are only there til you get the steels banded then that's fair enough.

I think that looks great with those new wheels and tyres. Ride height is spot on, don't think I'd go for white lettering on the tyres though. Lovely Viva mate.

As an extra I don't think white lettering will suit those wheels. On banded steels yes but they're too modern.

never understood the need to lower a car You're crazy. If anything, bringing the rear up by maybe an inch might give it a healthy bit of snoot-down stance, but the front looks ok. White (or yellow if you're painting the car) lettering on banded steels or the 'lites could look good but maybe less so on the sportpacks. Opinions dude. Either 'shop it or get the tipex out

I'll leave this here. I think the Sportspack wheels do have a slight resemblance to the HPF Avon wheels, if you squint, from a distance...

Ahhhhhh the old lowering debate. I think for a any car you expect to drive a lot on UK roads ya need a bit more height then that. My RX3 was only lowered slightly but still hit loads of things. Became a pain sometimes as I used it so much. I reckon a touch higher on your viva- it looks good but looks impractical too.
Maybe I'm getting old.....

I still maintain that if I went to people with intelligence to make an exhaust, i.e. not Powerflow, and with a little more tinkering on the suspension the ride will be an adequately comfortable and perfectly usable as long as I don't belt it over speed bumps at 40mph.
It could come up a bit and save me the hassle but I think it looks just right where it is and I'm too stubborn for my own good. I think with said suspension tinkering the front may drop lower so I'll have to get some half inch taller springs if that happens, don't want it to go any lower!
I'll leave the white lettering until banded steels come my way, and loads of people have made the comparison to the Avon wheels. I'm starting to like them more and more.
I've also had a think about engines etc, and decided to carry on with the plan for a fast road 1256 together with a nice properly fitting exhaust. In the long run I'm going to start building up parts for the Rover V8, 4 pot front brakes and disc rear brake conversions, as well as slowly rebuilding the Mini. Although I'm not set on the RV8 as all I've read nothing but cutting bulkheads, and I really don't want to do that. That's all quite a few years away though...

Stick to your plans.... I liek the car as i said... the comment about height was a personal thing, not a commnet on the whole slammed debate... I have a couple of faster cams for 1256cc engines if your interested. 285 degree and a mad as a hatter 305 degree cam ... the 305 cam is designed as a full on screamer, so wouldn't expect it to tick over very well One can get a RV8 in without cutting the bulkhead, but don't expect it to do anything other than go in straight line Good mate has a two door RV8 HC and he's cut the bulkhead back about 5 inches or so and now can corner as well. Good luck with all the plans....

No problem at all Paul, always feel free to give your opinion always appreciated whether its the same or different to mine. Might well be interested in the 285, how much would you want for it? I was originally going to stick with the 90 cam for ease of daily driving, but I'm still tempted. As long as the power band doesn't kick in silly late I think it should be alright for a daily? Hmmm, that wouldn't do for me, I prefer a car to go around a corner fast rather than go in a straight line fast. Will have to have a rethink on that then, although I guess most larger swaps will be a similar case. Do you know how/if a redtop will fit without bulkhead cutting? Although I didn't really want a common modern 4 pot :/ Thought I might be able to get away with things with an RV8 as it's fairly light. Do you know if your mate or anyone has a build thread for an RV8 HC? Would be good to have a look. Thanks!

No build thread on any forum for my mate with his RV8 HC... Red top will fit without bulkhead changes, just got to know where to put it and how to make a sump.
RV8 will require loads of body changes mate !!! as well as axle swaps and lots of brake upgrades...
285 cam yours for £50 should be okay for a man who wants a bit more poke but we are not talking kicking in at silly revs...

I don't mind swapping axles and props around and am already planning what I'm doing with brakes, etc, it's just cutting the body I don't want to do. In which case the RV8 is completely out of the question, at least on this Viva How much does a Redtop weigh compared to an RV8 and the OHC's? I would have thought I'd still have difficulties getting a good weight distribution...Any better options for an engine swap? 285 sounds good Paul, I'll have a think and check my money and PM you.

.....Any better options for an engine swap? Rotaries... easy, cheap, fun and small. Hcs have even more room under that baulkhead so a rotary will drop in. Say a nice injected 13B straight out of a series 4 rx7 (86-90) with 150 odd bhp. This one below has a 12A bridgeport... Ignore offbeat lumpy sounding exhaust - this ones heavily ported. Think 'very lumpy cam' ...if it had cams, or valves, or pushrods, conrods, or timing gears, or pistons....

Problem with rotaries is I may be doing a few short distances, which I know they don't particularly like. How light are they? Thought I'd update this with what I've been doing for the last few weeks. It was only supposed to take one week of work here and there and not cost much but that flew out the window soon enough  Made a board to go between the seats and boot, and stuck my 4 channel amp on it, and a boot light (my first ever! ) The rear two channels are running 5x7 coaxial speakers on the parcel shelf with a low pass filter and bass EQ. The front channels go to the crossover units to run tweeters on the a-pillars and 6.25 woofers tucked under the dash. This hasn't been done yet but the baffles just need screwing in. I did do a load of calculations to make ones that were secured at an angle to tuck them up even more and point more towards the seats rather than carpet, but forgot how little space I had to play with  If anyone should want them, PM me, or I'll find a superman fan to sell them to  Next on the list is to get some 3mm MDF or hardboard and make a board to cover the boot floor. Should be fun. Have also rebuilt a carb that i wanted to stick on, but there are a few difference between it and the one I'm currently running, so I don't want to swap it over if it might be curse word What with Billing being next week, seeing as the car ain't completely broke, I won't fix it.
