This is my 1970 Herald 13/60. Starting from the oily bits and working outwards, the engine is is a standard GE code 1300 though according to the british motor heritage certificate thingy, it's not the original. It uses no more oil than any other engine of this age, doesn't smoke at all and leaks only from a weepy gasket between the sump and the engine casing (each time you park it will leave a single drop of oil, as my parking space will verify!)
It has a J type overdrive 'box that appears to be from a late Spitfire and it has to be the single best modification that this car can receive. It makes longer journeys and motorways much more bearable!
The chassis is solid, with no rust that I have found yet.. I also last had it undersealed a couple months ago to make sure it stays that way. The bodywork is also really good, with a couple little scabby bits but certainly nothing to cause concern. The paint, however, isn't as good. It looks lovely from 10 feet and polishes up really well if you like it shiny, but it would need attention if you like it perfect.
Interior is good, but it is tatty. Both myself and the previous owner have used this car as a daily and it so although good and usable, isn't perfect. Much like the paint I suppose.
What have I missed? It has a massive amount of history, and has been well maintained. But, there are a couple of buts... It only has MOT until some time in August. I see no reason for it to fail other than the aged front numberplate but it's something to take into consideration nonetheless. It has, technically speaking, also been written off in the past. I say technically.. someone drove up the back of it and the insurance company wrote it off, the owner (who kept it as close to concours standards as he could reasonably manage) lost interest and a classic car restorer bought it from him, repaired it and put it back on the road, using it as his daily for 6 months with no problems at all. I'm told the DVLA inspector said it should never have been written off for such minor damage, especially since the chassis was totally untouched by the accident.
In the time I've owned it, it's had a new waterpump, a new set of coolant hoses, a new alternator, electronic ignition, regular servicing (documented in a little notebook so I can keep on top of it).. A set of rather tatty Cosmics which will stay on it and include the original steels as well. I've probably missed things, but if you're interested then you'll give me a call anyway..
I'm selling because I've just bought a new toy and can't justify two cars when I live 10 minutes walk from work! Let me know if there are any specific pics that you want to see..
Cheers
Ben
