Awesome find that! Seeing as it's such a rare care ( never even heard of one before now) I'd be very wary of modding. Jag sixpot and autobox sounds lovely and with the exterior looking factory no one needs to know!
But, your ride your way ;D

Thats lovely!
You'll need to do a lot of work to it's underpinnings to run a big lump like a jag6 or daimler8, these things are a completely different era of car I know it's nearly 50's but it is in essance a vintage car, you cant just drop a big motor in and uprate the brakes and such like you do with a 60's 70's machine with this your talking about completely regineering it, with the torque of a big modern motor not only would you mince the axle and the uj's you also very probably rip the suspension apart..
Also it's only designed to do 70mph and belive me you wouldn't want to do 100mph in it! drive something like an Austin 7 racer at 50mph through country lanes and tell me you want more power than the 40odd bhp its tiny engine produces..
Preselectors are lovely things and a joy to drive it's be a real shame to bin it...
Personally i'd restore it to somewhere near stock, vintage cars are great fun and are so different and interesting there's no need to cock about with it, if you want to build a rod there's much better starting points than a huge old saloon, also from a financial point of view it'd really be worth summat done nicely, hacked about with a modern lump different axle and such in it it'd be pretty much worthless..

I had my first drive in a DB18 DHC at the age of 14. My dad used to own one he restored many years ago. Actually the first pic of me I can remember seeing, aged 3, is infront of that car beeing restored. Dad tuned his with dual SUs, but no other mods. Remember going on holidays to the UK in it. And going back to Norway we had the rear legroom filled with parts etc. My dad just gave away all his spareparts to a friend in Sweden which still has his.
I'd mod it so that it can easily be returned to original.
Good luck what ever you decided.

...i´d never thought i´d write this but i´d be tempted to restore it to original spec and enjoy it for what it is.
Good luck whatever you do with it, great find! ;D

Ooh, so many opinions / ideas / comment's. All of course are welcomed cheers all!
I think for now I'll go about restoring the body and as that progresses I'll decide what to do with the engine / transmission.
Need to build a bigger garage first tho!

Rod it. Who care's if it's rare? In fact, the rarer the better. I'd fit Jag XJ6 front and rear suspension (or Daimler if you want to keep it in the family) and maybe the engine and box too. Pre selector sounds nice but I knew a guy who put a Rover V8 into a Conquest and he looked at retaining the box but it would have been too much work, plus it probably wouldn't stand the stick.

Interesting find, my old man has 3 Daimlers currently and started with the consort (now sold). It was the first car I ever worked on all those years ago and I still spend time around them when I go up to my parents place. If you need a hand locating spare parts give me a shout, I think my old man still has some Consort parts floating about the place. Good luck with your build

bloody awesome project... but i wouldnt be able to leave that standard... theres no need.... Id go... modern TDI cos itll have the torque to hussle it along nicely... and the turbo will get you the revs youll normally lose by using a diseasel.... that and smaller banded out solid steels with lower profile tyres and something old and racery for the exhaust... just big rusty tube Think this ISH

tasteful rod. It was hiding away for 26 years+ and you were the first person to show any interest.
Don't reincarnate it to its previous life. Keep it standard looking apart from the rims and stance and give the old girl a new heart - The ultimate in comfy cruisers ;D
Diseasle power sounds like a great idea!!! tons of torque and better mpg on a heavy beast like that

It's incredible how well that interior's survived, they're normally consumed by wildlife! I vote for a Triumph 2.5 straight 6 and autobox. That would give a useful power/practicality increase without ripping the rest of the running gear to shreds.

Updates, no. . . progress yes. Herald is now in daily use and I'm just finishing a friends mini off, but this will be having full attention next to keep me sane (wife doesn't approve of more cars) expect lots of progress, inc a Diesil powerplant tow bar and the ability to bring 2 cars to next years RRG (RRG11)

ok well following lots of further dicussions, conversations regarding this car and the possible ideas It's still had no progress but the plan has evolved further.
It makes sense to improve things as I'm going so a disc conversion front and rear will be achieved. This is never going to be any sort of track machine, that's what my herald is for, it's purley to move me and the mrs around in comfort while being able to pull the herald behind.
With this in mind the engine / drivechane options are wide open. they has been dicussed, thought about and re-dicussed. I know it makes no sense but I will be fitting a V8, with LPG. I've come to this conclusion as I want a traditional hotrod with a tweak and all my hotrod dreams involve lake pipes and stonking V8's and roof chops.
So thats where this is going now.
V8 chassic boxing Roof Chop Body Channel Banded Steels (Front narrow, rears wide Disc brakes luxury interior
the only thing which I want to look into a bit more is (for no other reason than intrest) 4wd, thoughts on this are welcome. I know it will mean I carn't do massive burnouts but I wounder if it would give me better track ability, and as I'm going down esentially an Alcblown clone just make it somewhat different.
