I havent managed to keep this thread up to date for a while for various reasons, but that doesnt mean nothing's been going on. Infact, very much the opposite! ;D When I left the thread I'd just recieved the brackets for the brake calipers and some bodywork. Calipers were spot on, bodywork didnt fit Turn out the Aries chassis isnt exactly to the book, so that's been sold on. I got on with adapting and fitting the clutch slave cylinder: As you can see, its a very tight fit! Then I got on with the big job, making my unusual choice of rear brakes fit! Brackets welded up: Then to chop up the rear uprights to make them fit: And make some gap fillers: Welded in: And on the car: These photos show how tight clearance is down there: But everything fits, including 13" wheels! Woohoo!

Calipers fit great! I did have a quick browse through the thread but could see what you'd got them off? Do they have a hand brake mech?

The next major job we really wanted to get done was the exhaust, as we didn't know what sort of trouble it would cause. So my dad got on the line to Graham at Exausts By Design who said bring it to him and he'd make a full stainless system mated to our silencer. First though, we had to cut the hole in the side panel: Very pleased with the result, done using a 45mm hole cutter and a jig saw This one shows how tight the clearance has to be on the top rail: Somewhere in the proceedings I also managed to fit the scuttle which we'd recieved from Aries, but I cant remember where that fits in it was all a bit hectic really! But anyway, the car went off to EBD: and returned a week later wearing this:

They are rear calipers from a Renault 5 GT Turbo, but are exactly the same as on all rear disc 106, 205, 206, 306s, various citroens etc. They do have a handbrake mechanism however I'm not using it

Great stuff Adam, looking really good. Take it it won't be needing an SVA/IVA as it's for track use only, and I love the idea of a bike engined car. Mmmm, sequential gearboxes I think I'm definitely going to build a Se7en in the near future

Mmmm, sequential gearboxes I think I'm definitely going to build a Se7en in the near future Wont need an IVA but will need a log book which is almost as pedantic but in different places (occupant saftey mostly). Bike engined sevens cant be beaten for fun on the track really, the closest you get to a full size go kart! Great fab/engineering work Thats was the idea to begin with. I want to make it my own in as many ways as possible and do as much fabrication as i can in the time available. I want to replace a lot of the Aries parts (suspension etc.) with my own design once it's all together, but the plan is to get it on the track and then develop the parts that need work as I feel necessary.

Well.... I made it move around 2 metres under it's own steam! Its still not really running well enough to actually drive, can't get it to run on more than 2 or 3 cylinders And the clutch has such a sharp action I keep stalling it. I think it could do with a smaller master cylinder really. I really owe this thread a big update, a lot has been done recently!

I can't believe how long its been since I last updated this thread! I've been extremely busy but a bit lax on the photo front Fabricated up a drivers head rest: Its now been painted and has a nice layer of foam on the front. We decided to splash out on a nice Tillet low back racing seat as if you're not comfortable you're not going to enjoy driving it: It really is a work of art and very comfortable for a fibreglass seat! After much thought and fiddling of airboxes we decided a pipercross sausage filter would be the best option, so we purchased one and fitted the original trumpets: Finally got my compomotives from A52 (big thanks Bruce!): And got my nice michelin slicks fitted to them... Made up a rear panel to cover up the fuel tank / rear suspension area: Then got round to fitting the bonnet and nosecone! Not an easy task, lots of trimming, trying, trimming, trying etc.... And the rear arches on: Had a rethink of the throttle cable arrangement and added a secondary throttle spring to the carbs: Thats just a small snippet of the major things i've done really, the bits I have photos of! Other things include all the wiring, brake bleeding, clutch stop, oil system, fan, rain light etc.

On thursday while I was away at a festival, my dad took it to Big CC racing in woking. They've recently installed a car rolling road and agreed to rolling road and rejet the engine to get it running nicely. After a few issues with fuelling it did two good runs, one making 119bhp and the wheels and one at 121bhp at the wheels. That equates to about 140bhp at the crank which is what it made from the factory so I'm happy! They also brought up a few issues to get sorted but nothing major Some more photos: Me looking happy: Trimmed the holes in the bonnet vents: And today I got on with the cycle wings. After various setbacks including trying to fit them to the wrong sides (DOH!) one side is in position: We need to get as much of the weight in as possible as its going to be cornerweighted and fully aligned on friday at Procomp I think thats all for now!

Looks really great there Adam. Is it wrong that I preferred it without arches?

Looks awesome, really like the wheels.
Me and my dad have been building a locost for the last 8 years and are still nowhere near how far you've got! Too many projects I guess. Seeing yours makes me want to pull ours out of the garage and do some more work on it.
