Go to the scrappie and dissect a Volvo - I used to do just that to make heated saddles on bikes many years ago...

good suggestion...although our scrappys would want more£££ than a proper kit

Those ebay kits will give you a nice warm bum for about 10 seconds before descending into epic fail!
I also fully recommend getting a Volvo heated seat and ripping it apart.....the heater element is properly made and will last (it's a Volvo remember, not a cheap Taiwanese bit of wire)
My guess is you'll get a pair of seats for around £30-£50 and that's a LOT better value than £23 for a quick bit of heat.....

At least in Scandinavia, Carltons had heated rear seat as standard equipment. As the rear seats aren't used as often as in front, there's a greater risk that those heating pads are working than one from the front. Finding a junked out Carlton can't be hard in the UK? But I don't know if they had it in UK of course...

I'd also go with the "dissect a volvo seat" option. I saw inside one once, don't recall when, and it looked pretty simple.
Heated seats always make the think I've shat meself though.

have you tried vw ? heated seats were an option in polo's and last time I checked (bout 6 mnths back) they were still availble off the shelf, realy not expensive either as from what the dealer said, as they get less and less demand the price drops until it becomes a heratige part

Forgive me if this seems rude! but have you tried heated seats before you are going to fit them?
I had them in my 1st new beetle and they worked well, but as said above they made me feel as if I had pooped myself and then after a while they made me feel sick! (admitted the missis liked them though...)
Just saying as it would be a gutter to spend a load of time to fit them and then never use them!
I also reckon the disect/transplant a seat is the best option as those covers look poor and I reckon after a while would slip after a while if they don't fail.. (there is also the cables - i expect they plug into a ciggy lighter? - again that wont look good!)

yes ive got them in my golf
my thoughts was to dismantle the orig pads in my first post and fit them under the cloth on the seats , i can easily rewire to loose the fag lighter
but i guess they're right...chinnse tat aint gona last well

my local one had the switch and harness... also said the harness is the same as a few other models so obtainable from the states... wasnt that much for the pads when i checked tho... they were talking just over a ton ordered for the pair!
