Maybe it's the 90's Street Machine reader in me, but I have got a soft spot for the bathtub/chopped screen look. I've just found this Fiat 500 on Flickr: Anyone remember the UK built Fiats (126s I think) - The Roth influenced one with the one-sided screen, and the yellow/white one with home-made sponge seats? Anyone got any pics of Sam Anker's Minor pickup? We had to have the Beardmore roadster didn't we? In it's later guise. Challenger roadster concept. Mark Bailey's Beetle Roadster - still in the same condition, I believe. Anyone got any other examples? Remember the purple SAAB 96? That lovely blue Mini? That channelled pale green Beetle that used to hide on the campsite at Bug Jam? Roadsters please - not convertibles or predictable Hot Rods

I think cars like these are whats missing from the hot rod scene, the "show" cars built for a laugh. I can remember going down to shows as a kid in various cheap 70s/80s cars slammed to the ground with the roof cut off. They wouldn't last long though, maybe a month of 2 before being bean canned.

I want to do an e36 BMW roaster some day. Maybe in the gulf colours with a small orange windscreen. Oh ye and no doors!

Don't forget the 5kg tub of P40 to fill all the speed holes in lol. I miss the huge burnout competitions and hot hatch smash, drunken human pyramids etc.

My mate and I built a Subaru GLF estate "roadster" back when they were bangers rather than retro.
I'll have to scan in some photos of it!

Yay, a thread where I can put up a pic of my Mk2 Escort without it looking like the worst idea ever ;D (sorry about the weird pic btw, that's my wallpaper at the mo - my photos are all on my home PC but I couldn't wait!) So, anyone got soft-top fabbing skillz? HC.

I've raided the old photo albums and turned up a few roadsters: Could there be two purple and blue Subaru roadsters? I guess not. This must be your mates one then Cortinaman! Also included in this scan are a roadster'd bay window and the pale green BUg I mentioned earlier. I found a pic of the SAAB too. Quite an easy build I suspect considering how radical the finished car is. Another of Mark's Bug. THe last one is a Nissan pickup...unfortunately what looks like a nicely finished car was last on the road not long after this shot was taken (according to the DVLA). The vehicle details for B739 XTT are:
Date of Liability 01 11 1996 Date of First Registration 29 03 1985 Year of Manufacture 1985 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1770CC CO2 Emissions Not Available Fuel Type Petrol Export Marker Not Applicable Vehicle Status Unlicensed Vehicle Colour BLUE

Nice one Rmad! Thats the Subaru - brings back memories! I drove it for about six months as my only car - no roof, just a tarpualin for when parked. Those were the days!!! It evolved slightly from that picture - lowered and tinted headlight covers so you couldn't see anything at night! Unfortunately it was broken up many years ago.

I'd always assumed a roadster was a two seater, not that I have any reason for that mind. I parked next to this at the L2B in 2003 Very nicely finished, not sure if it's still going though.
