I've owned this car for about two and a half years now and have just driven it and used it, but now my Triumph GT6 is back on the road I am hardly using the E21, so I'm going to put it up for sale soon. Before I do that I need to sort out a couple of problems. The main thing is the spot of rust towards the rear of on of the sills. I know that behind this there is also a small hole in the inner sill, so it was time to remove the previous MOT garage 'repair' to see what lurked behind. before; and with the patch removed; I'm guessing that the ends of the sills should have a right angle on them for the wheel arch to spot weld on to? It looks like I will have to remove the subframe lower mounting plate to give me enough room to work in there though.

Over the past few evenings I have been able to cut more of the rot out, but it did mean I had to wrestle off the subframe mount to give me enough space to work on the inner sill. One of the bolts holding the mount to the subframe sheared off when I tried to undo it, so I have to find a few new fasteners. Here's the new piece of inner sill, it was fully seam welded before the sealant went on top. and from the other side, you can see how much of the middle and outer sill I have had to cut back also. Last night I was also able to make a start on rebuilding the inner arch, which looks like it was originally welded through the inner sill.

Nice work. A top tip though, put the nut back onto the big subframe bolt/pin and hit it with a hammer upwards, the pin is splined and will pop out of the top. That should give you more room/ease of removing subframe bushes.

Thanks for the tip rob0r, I did give the long pin a quick hit to see if it would move out of the way easily, but it didn't seem too keen and fortunately there was just enough space to do the work in there. I've managed to finish the sill repairs today, first with the middle sill piece, I didn't have a reference of how this should look, but it ties it all together. Then I set about the outer sill, with some more fresh steel. A hole was drilled for the subframe bush lower plate and all the welds seam sealed. Further inside, the rest of the inner arch has been put back in. Tomorrows job should be to finish cleaning off the underside before giving it a coat of Dinitrol.

The underside had a coating of Dinitrol this morning and seeing as we had good weather again today I took the opportunity to wax the car again as it hasn't been done for a few months and then took a few pictures, which I might use in the sale advert.

Looks nice. Lowered on some nice rims and it'll be a cracking little car.
