I owned this car for quite some time but now it is owned by Tepper, who seems to be doing a sterling job with the car. Well, here is my latest arrival shared between me and a few mates: It's pretty standard bar a few things: Miles' (PugRacing) Group N Adjustable Gear linkages Air filter/AFM location moved It's also had new bits including new tyres, Lower arms, steering Rack, Front tyres etc.. But it also needs new suspension (dampers are a little tired as are the rear beam mounts, engine mounts and a couple of oil seals attending to. It's a joy to drive and it certainly has that grin factor about it. Being a non sunroof and non electrics (manual windows) model, it also is slightly lighter than a normal GTi so it may be used for the odd hillclimb dependong on the direction we take.

Well, I've been a little bit of a busy Chas on the car. It's got a couple of oil leaks on it, of which it's now down by one leak. First one was the dizzy seal. It was leaking quite badly with the dizzy swimming in oil. To my surprise the seal had pretty much disintegrated beyond most recognition. The area around was cleaned as it was caked in oil. One leak down, many more to go. I know one leak is from the diff seal (New driveshafts and clutch, but I suspect the seals were not done or GSF ones were used (for some reason, only the update Pug items (same as the 306 don't seem to leak (similar thing occured on my 306 GTi-6 too... and that had GSF seals. So much for people saying you can save money...)). The other oil leak left besides the diff seal is an odd one. I cannot put oil into the engine. If I attempt to, all of it leaks out over the front of the engine. I reckon the filler pipes and breathers are at fault but I fear I'll need to take the manifold off to investigate that . Hmmmm, Mi16 or GTi-6 is just becoming more tempting by the minute (admittedly, only the oil leaks are the problem with the engine). Shame as the 1.6 is a very sweet engine .

Your other oil leak sounds like the big pipe that runs from the oil filler down to the block. There is a section of it that does a short horizontal run, around here it tends to go hard and crack - resulting in all the oil pouring down the front of the block instead. No need for manifold off to change it IIRC but it is a bit of a git to get to. Work from underneath and above. EDIT This one:

An old filler neck will cause all sorts of problems. My advice is to get a silicone one from BakerBM. Sweet car and I echo the sentiments above - keep it standard!

Well, the driveshaft seal has been replaced with a Genuine updated Pug one which should not leak (it didn't leak on my GTi-6 which shares the same seal coming from the same family of gearboxes). Now it's down to suspension. There is currently a bit of debate as for which setup to go for. Without further ado, here are more pictures of what's been going on: Dave trying to support the driveshaft: Supported!: The steering rack was checked. It was all ok, and the arms seem to have newish bushes in them: Here is the arm and damper. Damper has clearly seen better days: Point of no return?:

Nice collection of goodies Chas. Where are the coilies from? I've seen some 309 ones cheap on the Bay of E. I'm tempted as I assume they're the same? What do you think?

Coilovers are a bit of careful mix and matching. The springs are from Peter Lloyd rallying (200Ib items IIRC). Strut bodies are Compbrake items that work with Bilstein dampers. compbrake.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=3576Top mounts are also from Compbrake and are around £76 for the pair. Damper inserts are Bilstein Gravel spec Monotube dampers, which were aquired from Shenpar. Rears are also Group N dampers that are gravel spec items. IMO it depends on the coilovers. It may see pricey what we have spent on the coilover units but it still comes out relatively cheap for Billie coilovers, and more to the point, they are new (as you know, dampers degrade with age and mileage). Well, I saw a set going on 205 Drivers for £600 (I admit his strut bodies were genuine items mind you). If the damper inserts themselves have seen little use on the items you are going to bid on, I'd say they're worth a punt.

From the outside it will stay pretty much standard. Hell if I can still live with the peppy 1.6 it'll still be on the 1.6 Speedlines and brakes (they are lighter than the later Lucas items).
It is technically still Peugeot biased (they came with Bilsteins from the factory (bar the rear dampers which were PeugeotSport in house developed, hence why B4s on the back are seen as a downgrade yet B6s/Grp Ns are seen as an acceptable damper to the Pug K6 items).
