keep forgetting to update my thread.. not done much tho.. So sunday morning - nice day - I got up early - finished off the mk1 so Mrs L and I could go out fr the day... Bloody thing wouldnt start again, so that was that, threw out the old Relay and put in a new one.. Fired up first turn of the key,so next stop cafe - greasy spoon fry up and then some petrol and we headed out along the A4, through marlborough and surrounding areas just having a drive out - going up n down roads never been on before and had a good chillout day.. Main reason was to have a first proper drive out without reason in Tina and also Mrs Lawsy is learning more about the photography.. tina drove well, purred like a kitten most of the way, but when needed to use the loud pedal the front stands up and away she goes, really smooth too, doesnt feel quick then you look at speedo and go..oooo.. Anyway, here's a few snaps she got of Tina.. totally unedited too..

Well following last weeks cruise - couldnt wait for this sunday.. During the week I've managed to get.. Get some BBs RA's for a good price (well thats what i thought- 1 tyre wrong size, 1 flat, so got them done, thne one wheel buckled - but got it to balance up, so threw them on, dug out a set of brand new BBS centre caps I had aquired a while ago.. was too dark to get pics tho. also after last weeks cruise i decided to call it a day with the original radio - yes its cool and yes it worked well, but manualy tuning radio stations - no thanks - so as the MK1 sold without the stereo I got to work, had a lot f wires to re-route for the speakers, but got it done - also upgraded the 6 x 4 in the front doors to a nice pair of alpines.. Sounds so much better - still got the rears to do.. Whilst i was doing this i had the half the dash apart so plan was to look for the water leak - soon found it Membrane behind the speaker area in the passanger door was missing - so stripped down the soaking wet door card and set of repairing and making a new one from a sheet of waterproof damp course i had lying about from some building works.. left door card off all week so it could dry out - then this morning refitted it ready for another day out.. First stop was a local small classic car show, but because of the nasty weather we didnt stay long - opened the weather app on the iphone and looked for sun - none - so headed souther for drive and it got brighter - ended up gicing tina a goorun round country lanes almost ending up at southampton - then a blast home on the motorwy - was nice with new rims that are all balanced means i could use the right foot - cruises very well at outside lane speeds, even making peopel move over too and powering past.. very very happy anyway - cant end a post without pictures - so here goes..

hey : some women have taste, my ex-gf (now my wife ) has no clue about cars (drives a super reliable, ultra boring Toyota Starlet) but my Santana was the car she still talks about today ("what a nice car, drove so nice bla bla bla)... and those wheels fit perfectly.... they are Mk.II Golf ones ?

So am i right in thinking the Santana is basically an Audi 200? The turbo Quattro 200 was quite brisk for a big bus.... Engine transplant perhaps?!

So am I right in thinking the Santana is basically an Audi 200? The turbo Quattro 200 was quite brisk for a big bus.... Engine transplant perhaps?! not 100%, the Passat/Santana is very similiar to an Audi 80 (front suspension, engines, brakes, gearbox etc.), the rear is totally different, though the bigger 5pots fit in easy.... a mate had a 86 Passat syncro (4WD) with the 20V Turbo 5pot from the Audi 200 , that was fast... i think he sold it,it was a total sleeper in innocent white ... i'll have to check for pictures tonight.....

i was just looking my old pics, didn't find one from the white GL5, but from my blue one : ah yes, those were the days, that was in 2003 i think.... by the way, i might have a ski bag (which opened behind the rear arm rest , so you could load skis in the car ) left in my workshop, as i probably never own a santana in the future you could have that for free; would be a cool extra, if yours doesn't have that already.... most of my Santanas were built in Belgium by the way : i am getting a bit sad now, that i don't own a Santana anymore

so a little update - been using the car for the last week every day - blow out some cobwebs etc - plue the MOT due soon so wanted to see what rattles/shakes etc. so this week i've put on around 240 miles onto the old girl and she's behaved very very well, used about £40 of super unleaded for it, so not too bad either.. Today, stripped out the rear boot carpet and searched for the water leak - found it, the seal - was perished - bet they don't do a new one off the shelf - so rummaged around and found a mk2 golf tailgate seal in my shed, offered up and they were of a similar profile and length, fitted and tried the watering can test.. 1 tiny drip now, which is coming through some rust which I hope to get welded up soon.. however whilst searching about I found some bubbling on the rear inner arch that had suddenly blown through, there it was, little beacon of daylight shiningthrough, it is within 30cms of suspension top so off to get it welded up tomrrow and pre-mot check done, plus if time allows investigate the possibilty of mk2 golf springs being used to lower it.. anyways - enough rambling - have some new sunset drive pictures for your trouble!!

BOOOO
Failed MOT
1 - thing - Offside front (floor rusted through within 30cm) suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded
Bloody test station wouldnt show exact location as obviously they wanted to do the work..
Was handy tho, the MOTEST centre in Reading have a no pass no fee policy soat least its cost me nothing to find out its a fail
Advisory items
2 - Lift in both front top shocker mounts just in limit 3 - O/S/R Tyre heavily oerished and split 4 - Engine oil leaks - what old VW doesnt.. 5 - Exhaust heavily corroded. 6 - Rear brake performance could be improved
so all in, not to bad really..
I got till 25th feb to get it done, so booking in up at CQ's next monday and take from there

Thats not to bad, if you were closer you could have nipped round to use my welder. As for the front suspension thats just a good excuse to work a little magic on it, sure it wasn't this low before i fixed it ;D
