I love this thing - 10" Wheels on the front! The Shadow Mk I AVS (Advanced Vehicle System), as raced in the 1970 CanAm season, was the first Shadow CanAm car. Designer Don Nichols designed this odd looking car with only one thing in mind; the smallest frontal area as possible. He did this with the cooperation of tire manufacturer Firestone, they designed tires that were 30-35% smaller than the normal tires. With 10 inch rims up front the Mk I AVS had a 13sq-ft frontal area compared to the 19sq-ft frontal area of the 1969 M8B. It was capable of top speeds of 250mph and according to Firestone the tiny tires were capable of speeds of over 300mph. That is all! J

Its like the batmobile crossed with a go-kart ;D and it makes the driver look incredibly large. Love the kinlser/crower injection stacks

Amazing car - kinda 'honey I shrunk the front end' Almost looks like you have to have your legs amputated below the knee to get in the thing! (I wouldn't want to be in it if it ever smashed into anything though!!)
It would be mad to see this thing at speed...the proportions are almost comical yet it could probably wipe the smile off the faces of a lot of other stuff on a track.
Nice find....

That Shadow F1 car was what made me think of it! Yeah I can imagine the 800bhp big block could make it go quite fast

I nearly got ran over by it at Goodwood last year It is an insane looking machine, much more on the scale of a kart rather than a full grown race car. But a kart with a stonking great V8! Very little in the way of driver protection too. Wouldn't want to get out of shape in it.

Ahh yes, the one with the four polaris 2-smoke engines, was meant to be quite fast, but also quite unreliable!

Is that a spare seat I spy to the right of the driver?? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Yes, it is. Part of the spec for CanAm. Odd quirks, racing rules. Like the need to carry luggage space in a LeMans car.
