Maybe Saab should sue Subaru over the grill treatment on the Tribeca?: don't GM own saab and subaru. might be like suing your sister lol You'd sue your sister if she had kids that ugly though, wouldn't you. Perhaps an early Espace would suffice? They're a steel spaceframe with plastic panels attached. Cut that down and you might get somewhere with a bit of extra bracing. The basic chassis should still be strong enough. They even have a canted engine, although I can't remember if the really early ones were longitudinal or transverse like the first large engined 21s. I know the Mk 2 and 3 were transverse on a tilt. I'm pretty sure up to Mk2 at least are longitudinal-engined. I helped a guy fix the water pump belt on his Mk2 Espace a while ago and that was longitudinal.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I assume that's how it would work anyway. Among the list of mods would be the change of bodytype etc. You'd need quite a specialist insurance company though... "Hello? Are you the company that can 'quote me happy'? Right, good. I have a 1971 commer van that I've rebodied with a caravan in tribute to these Saab things I saw on Retro Rides..."

Good god! A hat box edgewise on wheels. Or a hank of colby cheese on end. So horrid, so bland, it actually remains horrid and bland, and thus, is of great interest in bringing forth into the light of day. Such blanditudination must be built. It cannot remain theoretical. It must be actual.

Mr Tredia & ScoobyPete,
YES PLEASE to both!
I have made some calls today and it looks like a major project to create a UK version of this vehicle is very much going to happen. More details to come.....but sourcing a base chassis is the first step.
A cab forward, seperate chassis vehicle is a must. 1972 or before would be amazing.
Lets DO THIS!

Might have found a suitable rusty/unloved base vehicle which won't be too much of a shame to pull apart for a chassis compared to the lovely Peugeot which does almost look too good to break (and because they are uber rare over here....) The one I have found is quite some considerable way away, but hey....always an adventure to be had ;D
Pete, if the Commer chassis near you is for sale and is cheap, might be very interested?

(snip) A rotten Yank could be a solution, as they didn't adopt monocoque properly until the mid 70's, and there were still large body-on-frame saloons being built then. We're then into RWD and finding a large enough caravan, so that choice creates problems of its own. This could be FTW... 70's land yacht plus Air Stream caravan... ? ;D

BOOHOO!!
Just found out that the Commer vans aren't seperate chassis! Even the pick-up ones were monocoque design.
Back to the drawing board on that front then!
Any suggestions please (seperate chassis cab-forward vehicle with simple mechanics, NOT 4x4)
