Ahhh... that explains a lot from my banger racing days about 20 years ago... the three point harness was just bunged in without too much thought to mounting points (Usually the old seatbelt points left and right, and any handy place behind me with a plate and an eyelet) explains the red bruises I'd find on my collarbones on a Sunday night

Do you have a roll over bar on that Spridget? If not, I wouldn't recommend harnesses, as should you flip it, unlike with regular seat belts you won't be able to duck down onto the other seat..... If a rollover bar is fitted, then that could provide mounting points at the right height.

I ran Harnesses and mine were attached to the top mount for the original seat belts.
Yes to that antiroll bar, mines made from single tube, MGOC used to sell that one you have posted.

If you're going to fit a roll bar then consider adding a horizontal bar between the rear legs this gives you the best place to mount the rear part of your harnesses to Like this to the diagonal (picture found on the web from inside a MGB www.britishracecar.com/JohnTargett-MG-MGB.htm) If you don't have a diagonal just go all the way across to the other leg Thats how they're mounted in my rally car If your not decided on your seat i would get a nice bucket seat to go in with a decent height back When choosing a bucket make sure when seated the harness holes are above your shoulder height This again is to prevent possible spine issues As for living with harnesses in a daily driver, its only a pain if your in and out of the car for short trips Other wise i've never found it much of a problem Saying that i'm happy to drive around in my car with buckets, full harnesses and no interior ;D

I'd say e-bay for seats, there are a load of ex-rally car seats around as the rules only allow them to be used for 5years If your talking new try www.ears.co.uk/motorsport/acatalog/www.peterlloydrallying.co.uk/Ideally you want to try before you buy though, as unlike a normal car seat buckets are all slightly different fit/shape So you really need to be sure they are a comfortable fit, but not too tight or loose.

Most mini suppliers do a vinyl classic bucket with a head rest that won't look out of place in a midget or with harnesses. I wouldn't worry about the ability to duck onto the passenger seat as you very unlikely to have time.

I used my old BMW 2002 as a daily driver with its buckets, harnesses and total lack of sound deadening or carpets or anything... and I loved every minute of it!

I'm with those above - I'm still happy with a bucket seat and harness, although I also said I'm cheating - I use a normal seatbelt on the road. In my E30 I can't reach the heater controls with the harness done up, so I reckon it's fair enough Getting a seat that's comfy and fits is essential, the Corbeau Forza GT I've been using in the BMW is too big, I slop around. It IS mega comfy though on long journeys. Just got myself a motordrive seat though to go in the rex and that fit's spot on, it's SOOOOO tiny you couldn't fit anyone bigger than me in it! Are you skinny or of the larger build?

To complicate things, but yet make them 100% correct, you should integrate the mountings of your seat with the cage. Rarely done and rarely enforced, but most serious racecars make sure the driver "goes with" the cage. If you're in a light-skinned body-on-frame, and the cage is part of the frame, but your seat is bolted to the body shell, then you could be in for an ugly experience. If you seat mountings are solidly tied to the cage, you're going to more likely stay inside the "safety cell" rather than being pulled asunder.
Norm, did a little tech for IMSA and SCCA, and built a few cars...

needabeetle, I'm on my way to being chubby, but I'm a shortarse too, I'll have to try some out next time I'm at a car meet Blitz, I don't have a cage, and am only planning on fitting a roll over bar for the moment, but a friend of mine does cages (and runs a seven second car) but lives miles and miles away have spent this evening making a new mount, decided to make a box to sit flush on the curved panel. then the belt witll have a better angle: box in place (its seam welded inside, it's not going to pull apart ) with captive nut fitted: obviously, it's not welded in yet - it just got too late edit: right pic added

The pic Lewis posted is from the MSA Blue Book and is "correct" for competition cars. That's a familiar pic mate
