Thanks for the positive words! This car has turned into a bit more of a project than I thought (don't they all?). Loads more welding still to do but the screen surround was a big step forwards. Ah I see, just very small spot welds and very close together! Nice work benzb, that's quite a task to make a decent fist of. Such a good-looking car these. I quite fancy one myself. Thanks! It was a bit daunting but once I'd started chopping there was no going back really! I can't decide if this car is good looking or not! Sometimes I'll look at it and it all seems to work, but other times I'll catch it looking a bit goofy! Either way, I like its oddness. But it definitely divides opinion. Brilliant progress bro! That's a nice neat job and a biggie out of the way! Yeah glad that job's just about done. Only the bits between the A-pillars and back end to do now... How's your bulkhead where it mounts to the chassis? The body mounts are next on the list, along with the passenger side front footwell. I'm not holding out much hope of there being much in the way of metal attaching bulkhead to chassis. There are some patches visible under the half-inch thick yellow paint more than likely hiding plenty of rot at the bottom of the bulkhead. I just hope there's enough original tin left to reconstruct! I'm surprised nobody makes repair sections for the front body mounts as they all seem to go. Even the "deep" floor pressings you can get need to be modified if you want to do the body mounts and A-pillar bottoms.

Crikey. How time flies! First time I've checked this for a year or more and there's been progress! Great stuff.
Hope you're noticed that the wiper position is different on that new scuttle. Heralds changed the set-up fairly late in the production run (13/60 time perhaps?).

Thanks Ian, I hadn't noticed that! Hmm... that would have been interesting come reassembly time. I suppose I'll be needing a later wiper linkage in that case. I'll add it to the "to do" list.

I've had to take a step back and think about this project, along with the other projects that I have on the go, and make some decisions.
This car was supposed to be a "light" project to run alongside the "big" Mercedes project. It began as a rolling project, then came off the road for some more serious repair work and has snowballed into a major project, which it was never supposed to be. When I put the Bond on the ramp a month or two ago, to be honest it was worse than I expected. I knew about the floor and bulkhead, but the chassis was in worse shape than I'd hoped and requires a fair bit of work to put right.
I tried to put a brave face on it and ploughed on with the screen surround, figuring that some fresh metal in there would make me feel more positive, but the fact is that I have to look at the amount of work I have to do on all my cars. I don't have the time or resources to take on two big restoration projects, plus all the other fun little side-projects along the way.
So I've decided I'm going to move the Bond on. I'd love to see it back on the road, but I don't have the time to put into it to achieve this without making it the sole focus of my efforts, and I have a Mercedes to restore which really needs my full attention if I'm ever going to complete it.
It's been fun. I've been to shows and meets in it, had some great times on some twisty country lanes, and it's sparked my interest in old British cars! But it's time to let it go, hopefully to someone who can give it the attention it needs to get finished.
Thanks for all the support, advice and interest everyone has shown over the years! It's been fun.

It wasn't an easy decision, but the Bond has snowballed into a full restoration which I just haven't got the time or space to do. I'd rather let it go to someone who can focus on it and get it back on the road. It's a sizeable restoration but doable if it's the only project you have on the go. If anyone fancies taking it on I don't want a lot for the car...

Sometimes things need to go. Sometimes you need to move on to other shores. If it's too much, it's too much. I can fully understand your decision, I had to do a similar one not a long time ago. As sad as it is - I'm eager to see news on your other project!

Whilst it is a shame to ditch it, you have made the right call. Many restos as you know require time and resources, something which I find a little scarce at the moment if I am honest!

Thanks for the positive comments. I'd love to have the time to complete it but looking back on the last few years I've not really achieved much on either big project! I'm having a major clear-out of the workshop too, to reclaim some space and re-focus.

A shame you've not managed to get a handle on this but then its understandable what with the Merc needing a lot too.

As one of the new owners of this bond I came across this page accidentally while looking for pictures and a bit of history about the car. It's fair to say I wasn't expecting to find such a detailed account of the cars restoration! It's nice to see the time and love that went in to the car that is currently In my garage!

Glad you found this thread! Yes there's been a lot of blood, sweat and tears over the years. All documented here! Hope work on the car is progressing well. Funnily enough I found one of the seat runners for the bucket seats in the workshop today. I've put it aside and was going to text you. If I find any other parts for the Bond I'll put them aside for you too.
