Hey guys Well the ride isn't new to me but thought i'd start a thread about it, show ya plans (and problems) with it lol. Some of you will recognise it from RR09 and since then it hasn't really changed much! It's running all standard gear at the mo, 875, solex carb and standard exhaust system. The plans are to get the 930 I have in the garage rebuilt, balanced etc, flywheel lightened, head refurb'd, high lift to go in it with twin carbs and a stainless exhaust system! that is the plan for the next few month's anyway! This is how I bought the car, very original and well looked after what was the first thing I had to do to it? yeeeeesssss slammed! with alloys just a few pics that I took of it while touring the country before RR

I believe at Sparkford, I was the person who pulled up behind you at the petrol station in a Triumph Herald.. I stared longingly at it until I realised the owner was coming back...

Nice!
Rottie, Imps ran 12" rims while Sceptres and later Minx variants ran 13". Unfortunately the hubcaps won't fit.

GouldyGTR, cheers for the comment. yea easier than you think to get the bit's, this one is a bit rare being a 4 headlight coupe singer chamois, others you see like this will mainly be sunbeam stilleto's with a vinyl roof. parts are cheap and as with all these things most ppl that have one also have a shed full of parts, (i just use my dad's shed, actually his garage too!)

I'm having some problems with my car guys, wonder if you can help? I was driving along when the car just simply cut out. no fuel getting to carb as i could see from the filter. so i took the fuel line off, cap off tank and blew back through the line to clear it, it worked, great! put it all back together again and it won't start. out come breakdown. left it for a few weeks and had a look today, took carb off, cleaned rebuilt with new gasket etc and the float valve was sticky very occasionally when i was testing it so i have sat there tapping it with a dab of 3in1 which seems to have sorted the issue. I've now got the carb back on the car but no still won't start and i'm not getting any fuel the the spark plugs, what could this be? Any help much appreciated!

Can't help unfortunately, i'd suggest asking at rootes.proboards.com as well in case it's a car specific problem that can easily be rectified by a person in the know.

take the fuel pipe off the carb and point it into a jar and get someone to spin it over to see if the pump is working, sounds like pump or blockage to me. you could put alittle fuel down the carb with the air filter off, if it starts up you know its either of the above.

after a quick run outside i have tried what you said impstan, the pump is pumping fuel and with it poured down the carb there is no different. It wan't be a manifold slip as i haven't taken it off etc so what could be blocking/stopping the fuel get the the plugs?

Woo, nice coupe, I used to have a 1967 salloon ;D, it had oil in the water, water in the oil and it stiff chuffed along lol If fuel is pumping into the carb and your getting into the cylinders then the carb is at fault here Its been a while since I have looked at the engine on one of these, but if there is a rubber joint between the carb and engine and its split, then that could be your problem

Well time for an update i think. Car went for a while sat on my drive not moving or being started, found out that the point's had cracked, but it was such a slight crack you couldn't really see it, only when the cap was off, something i learnt there. Saying that they did look very old! Managed to get it running but was being a bit of a pain to start but then running ok, Off i went to see a mate in Liverpool, flying down the motorway and it starts blowing, little by little louder and louder. pulled it over to find what had happened Got the manifold off and then that snapped aswell! Managed to get both a manifold and exhaust off a friend and it now drives perfectly well! cheers guys Had another little problem the next day lol. driving along and suddenly loose all oil pressure, was like blackpool illuminations on the dash lol. Thought the worst but came out to be that the copper hose from the engine ends at the drivers footwell and a rubber hose held by a jubilee takes it to teh gauge, this had come off, oops, so yes oil all over the car, front carpets ruined but that's about the only damage, luckily i was planning on new carpets soon anyway, just made it a little sooner than hoped! I was hoping to try and get the car bodywork sorted this summer but with no job i'm not going to be able to stretch to that so i did it the student way! attack, fill, paint simple! I have attack the front Drivers side arch as that was looking the worst but actually it wasn't as bad as i thought it might be! that was once i had attacked it with some wet and dry and a screwdriver bit of filler for holes and shape Ok so this is not perfect and i will be using some kniffing putty to smooth out the little indifferences but for a days work and sod all money i was fairly happy with that (note the new wheels) If this post wasn't long enough i thought i'd just put 1 more quick pic of the car up on the new front wheels and in it's current state waiting for paint
