Carb help from someone cleverer than me please!

Yeah, I couldn't see one at all. I think I'll run one from the ignition. I hate being a couple miles from the garage. And being a couple miles from the internet when I'm in the garage. I'd get so much more done if I had the two together...

The fuel heater I was thinking of was on my Vespa. Best go with what the others said about it being a shut-off

put an ignition switched 12V + on the idle solenoid (you can take take from the reverse light switch on the gearbox)

Thanks to all for the help and input. I have an admission to make though.

Whilst refitting the stock carb, and making a new bracket for the throttle cable to mount on, I looked at it. Then I looked at the twin carbs. They're MASSIVE in comparison. I'm not one for phallic symbols, but if ever there was an argument for big twin choke carbs...

So I took the leaky one off, looked underneath where it was leaking and couldn't see anything wrong. I'm hoping it's just that a gasket dried out from lack of use. I put it back together with a smidge of 'liquid traveller gasket' to prevent further leaks and. They're fitted but it was getting late so I didn't try starting it. Something for the weekend

Exactly ;D Twin synchronous twin choke carbs, even. That's like 4 carbs. Even better!

All I she needs for them is a longer choke cable and we're laughing.

I can't remember what I said before, but I though it was the diaphragm in the accelerator pump that had perished/torn. Looked fine to me.. Fingers crossed.

And they do look amazing.

Right... So they're on. No more leaks from the accelerator pump.

Won't start though Catches a little bit but won't actually fire up proper like. This is mainly for Ian and Si because I reckon you were the last to work on the car unless Morgs did any more after the first playday.. Was the timing okay when you fit them initially? I don't mean absolutely perfect, but ballpark good enough to run..

I'll be going back to it tomorrow so I guess it's a case of being methodical. Fuel, air, spark, compression

appear to have the first, certainly have the second, I assume compression is ok though have no means of checking at the moment. That leaves spark.. Being methodical again.. I need to check that all the plugs are sparking, and then the timing. I assume that's what I need to do anyway. I'm not good at this stuff.

I feel like a bit of a spaz with all of this. It would be okay, but it's not my car and I really want it sorted so a) I can play in it and b) I can crack on with the Volvo again..

fuel - wet plugs?
spark & plug gaps?
ignition timing? not 180 degrees out is it?
firing order?
if they're anything like the 48's on mine then you'll have to pump the pedal a few times before cranking to get some fuel in there.

cheers. That's pretty much the plan. It's all such simple stuff that I really should have gone through it in order to start with rather than getting all over excited and just cranking it over in hope of the best...
