Was forced today by the gf to get the MG ZR seats out the lounge, so i fitted them into the S100 today. The original seats have rollers that sit in channels either side of the floor. I offered the MG seats up and suprising they were narrower than the standard jobbies. Scratched my head for a bit (and didnt come close to "just" welding the buggers in honest, and fabbed up some nice mounts for them, picking up on the sill inners and the tunnel so nice and sturdy :thumbup All in now, and the seats are nice and snug, and I'm sat lower now for that racing ]and sense of speed feel...... On a nother note, it broke down on me today, just cut out with out warning. Reattaching the king lead to the dizzy soon had normal service resumed

Picked up a bit of 8mm flat bar today and wittled out a manifold flange, using the gasket as a template. Next, had a look at the mini LCB manifold I bought last month. The branches were too far apart, so I stuck them in the press and bent them to the correct centres. When I was happy with their position, I cut off the mini flanges, and welded them to my own fanimold flange. The long centre branch had its flange lobbed off, a oval adapter piece welded in and all aligned and welded for real. End result: When the engine is in, I may have to adjust the tails to suit the fan mount, (or I may find an adjustable 12v fan motor and have an electric Skoda fan....

Like Jorily said, the snow is pretty good around Barnsley Got fed up of fwd, so dug the 100 out, cleared the street and went out for a play Only got stuck a couple of times, but luckily the gf was with me and reluctantly got pushing. If i'd put the 165 tyres on, it would have been fine, 195's just a bit wide for slicing snow action!!

Managed to get hold of a 1.3 130 engine from a Rapid (cheers Kenton!). Just about finsihed the 130 head, just needs a quick skim and the reshaped valves grinding in A few pictures;

Hey what a great thread!!! Fantastic work and great 'attitude'. I even had a chuckle at RR's very own 'Mary Whitehouse' character telling you off for your numberplate strategy.

Got out the stick today. We went from this: To this: and this: Using these, Spax springs: And adjusted the bump stops a little bit: Will probably drop a little more when the springs resettle. Only problems I had were that the near side eccentric bottom bolt is properly seized in place, so had to seperate the wishbone and the King pin, and the Metro front shockers I was planning on fitting use a smaller diameter bolt, so I need to weld some washers on the the bottom damper mounting.

Finally managed to track down a 5 port DCOE inlet manifold, (thanks Jay!) Swapped it for the 8 port DCOE manifold I got with Eleanor. Also picked up a chinny spoiler, in a S110r stylee.... Many thanks again Jay! Sweet. Question is, Do I leave it black or paint it yellow or white??? The spoiler has obviously added at least 50 bhp....

Whilst the gf was visiting her folks in CZ, I set her a mission to find me some bits and bobs. Not bad, got the thermostat, new top hose and a set of eccentric bottom joint bushes (nos ftw!!). She failed me on the wipers mind.... Must try harder.... ;D As Meatloaf once sang, two out of three aint bad.....

Bit more done today. Replaced the rear shocks (the o/s one nearly confused me as to where the top mounting is... ). And started to build it up with the 130 engine. Radiator in: New clutch on the 130 and then jiggled that into postion Then offered up my wonder LCB exhaust I welded up and found it didnt fit. It fouls the l/h engine mount . fan strut. FAIL : Looks ok though : So its been chopped up to adjust the centre branch and then it should be fine and dandy...

Update time. I got the 130 engine running, but it was far from happy and ran great but with an horrible knocking / tapping / clanking noise. Initially I suspected the unknown bottom end, so dropped the sump and had a poke around the crank and big ends. All was good, backed up with good oil pressure. But still the engine clanked. Turning the engine over to tdc, any piston, I could hear a knock as the piston reached tdc and changed direction. Eventually I pulled the head, and found this: Oh, hello, what are those witness marks on the pistons! it appears that skimming a 130 head to the wear limits causes interference. Not good. So the next step is to skim the pistons 0.8mm to give nice running clearance. Pistons, rods and liners removed, and we are left with: The liner shims all vernier up at 0.16mm and with out the shims, the liners sit flush with the block. Raiding Jorily tomorrow for new big ends, an head gasket and couple more odds and sods and we should be back in business by the weekend..... :thumbup The strip allowed me to clear all the sludge from around the liners, and clear the water way the S series cars have from the bottom of the water jacket, next to number 4 cylinder.

Skimmed the pistons at work. Basically found the CROWN angle, matched it with the lathe and took about 0.8mm off Shiny! Then tried to get some new parts (big end shells, head gasket, rocker cover gasket, rocker cover seals, liner shims etc) and came away with just the liner shims. Seems nobody stocking the rear engined stuff nowadays Luckily a fellow forum member has come to my rescue, and has promised to send me a couple of head gaskets in the post. Rebuilt the bottom end up, new big ends and rings from stock.

all back together now and it's a runner!! Needs bigger pump jets but it sounds like this:- Nice and fruity if you ease it over the off idle flatspot caused by the weak pump jets. This is a Dellorto 40 DHLA with 32mm venturi's. I would like a 45 really, but nobody will sell me one cheap. Just got to finish putting it back together, then I can run in the new rings and big ends. Set the valve clearences to 0.3 / 0.25. Is this a bit big? Ignition timing set at 8 degrees at about 1000rpm. Its coming.... whoop!!

The running in continues, well if its possible to run an engine in with a 4.44/1 transaxle. At least the engine loadings are light :moon Apart from an accidental 5000 rpm episode getting very sideways around a dry roundabout, in 3rd gear when it came on cam - loving the swinging axles Done about 150 miles ish in it so far, a couple minor incidents so far, the king lead fell off the dizzyand the Dellorto doesn't like been sat in traffic, tend to get fuel vapourisation symptoms, so hoping a electric pump pumping through the mechanical pump will sort that. All in all though its feeling pretty good. The engine lid reinforcing members have become seperated from the skin and it rattles like mad so thats going to get the silicone sealant and rubber treatment shortly Few jobs to complete, finish a couple of brackets, make a timing beam thing, refit bumpers, shorten exhaust tailpipe, tweak the jetting etc etc Not a big update, been getting the 100 ready for the Iom next week. Jobs done include making a cock of wrapping the manifold (should of asked the gf cos she's a nurse ! ) And the hundreds of wanky little jobs that needed doing, making a shelf for the elec fuel pump, fitting the flywheel wibblepoo plate, touching up the paint etc. IMS kindly offered to blow it over for me, but time and funds wouldnt allow. Sent the GF to find some matched touch up paint, but ended up with a choice of Kia Natural green and VW Brilliant Gelp. Neither are right, but the Kia colour looks the closest apparently. I'll just leave this here: Still unsure wether to run the ARB. Quite like the tail happy handling I get without it...... My bigger pump and mains arrived for the Dellorto today (now on 55 Pumpm/ 145 main. Wanted 50's but the carb shop sent me 55's... :bath ). Picks up and blips a lot better. The plug chop looked better too, so all good. Gently easing up the rev band now with the slightly richer mains, runs pretty good. Dissy now at 8 degrees and I think it will take a couple more degrees of advance (running on super plus, with lead replacement additive snake oil). Up on the ramps to change the transaxle oil and fit the new mudflaps :hands New rear lenses going on too! Also added my old racing moto from when I raced bikes....
