I thought I'd see if the "HD video" on my new iPhone was any good:
You can watch it in HD if that sort of thing tickles your fancy
I've just picked up some spare headlights and a few seals and clips - I'll be using the lights to take moulds of, to make some quad lights on the cheap.

I needed to get it out of the workshop and we didn't have time to wait for the paint to dry well enough to stick masking tape on it..

Wow that looks stunning, nice job! Cheers Just as I get it painted, engine sorted etc, The gearbox packs in! Ran up to drop an ECU off at a mates workshop yesterday, and the "ever so slight whine" turned into a nasty rattly grinding noise that you can feel through the car. Luckily I've got a spare box, but it's off a 1.1 so the ratios are a lot less sporty - This box with these wheels hits the limiter in 5th at about 140 indicated, which is about 120 actual speed. The 1.1 box would theoretically pull to about 160 if I had the power (I really don't) so it might feel a bit tall for the car. It'll make the trip to RRG10 a lot quieter though! I'll stick it on and see how I get on, and look at getting this one rebuilt. Bloody car!

smaller engines usually have shorter ratios don't they, to give them a slight hope of better acceleration. well they do in fiestas anyway. think yourself lucky you've got 5 gears and music, we managed all the way to the gathering with 4 gears, no music, very stiff suspension and no fan to keep us cool ;D
shame about the box, you seem to have as many problems with cars as i do

Cobblers man that is great. Excellent work.
You seem to be in a never-ending war against major mechanical failures that would have had most people in a 54-plate mondeo ages ago, yet you just kick these problems right in the face and carry on, getting stronger like you're in some sort of DIY mechanic XBOX platform game.

Wow, I clicked on this and expected something mediocre but in a good near standard way, but what I saw was summat awesome! Absolutely brilliant work I love the battle ship style of this, really inspiring, well done creating something headturning from something still popular on the roads, and keeping faith throughout the niggles.

I think you'd struggle, unless of course you did what I did and just take an air hacksaw to the arches ! Cobblers man that is great. Excellent work. Haha, cheers. I'm just getting used to having curse word luck with cars. I figure if I did get something like a 54 plate Mondeo, it would only go wrong in an even more obscure way. Then I'd have a broken car that bores me to death. A few years ago I'd be really upset that the gearbox is shagged, but when I really look into it, its a steady mornings work and I've already got the the box. Same with engines really, they are a day to swap, and weekends are dedicated tinkering time anyway. If I wasn't fixing my car I'd be working on my mates van instead. It only really starts to frustrate me when I get stuck on a problem (Mini engine rebuild turning out curse word, Buying an engine that looked identical but wouldn't fit on the gearbox on the Lupo and ground round in circles with the misfire)

Had a productive weekend - Fitted the new gearbox yesterday morning, everything went quite straightforward, which was nice! It's lost a bit of punch, but doesn't make awful noises anymore! We'd planned on working on my mates t25 in the afternoon, but he couldnt be arsed so I decided to fix the back arch that I'd smashed off in a pothole, and paint the spoiler and mirrors while we had the paint out. Unfortunately the paint on everything bar the arch turned out curse word! My mate thinks he over-thinned it, and it ran and sank into every little sanding scratch, and reacted on the spoiler. Hey ho, I'll redo them next weekend. Today I decided to fit the In-car PC that I'd collected bits for, and been getting round to for AGES. I've got about 140GB of music and even a really good stereo with USB input can't really navigate round this amount. I'd got a crappy old laptop with a ropey screen off my sister, and a touchscreen TFT off ebay. I cut up a dash center and fibreglassed/filled/sanded the screen mount into it, and finally today fitted it to the car: I got a 12v-19v charger for the laptop, wired it all through an old sony active crossover I bought ten years ago (when I was 14) to split between the sub amp and the front components and it worked great! But, The laptop was under the passenger seat with no way to turn it on, and the boot time was a bit annoying (about 90 seconds). I was going to wire a remote power button up on the dash, or make some electronics that turned it on when I turned the ignition on, then shut it down when I turned it off. Then I remembered I had a spare boot release output on the R/C/L kit - This became my power switch. I used a small relay, switched by the RCL kit, connected to the power switch in the laptop: If I press and hold the button on the fob for 5 seconds anywhere within about 100 feet of the car, it starts the PC up, so I can press the button from my bedroom, and by the time I get to the car it's ready to go. The PC is running Centrafuse, which is a Brilliant bit of software - I happily paid £50 for it this morning, which is saying something! It supports cameras too, so I'm digging out a couple of old webcams to lash around the car just because I can, really! Heres a video of it: This was before I turned "graphic fancy curse word" down and it runs a lot faster now! Few things left to do - I'll use a spare arduino to make the power arrangement a bit more elegant. As it is, I'm liable to flatten the battery by leaving it on. I'll make it so that if it's on and the ignition isn't, after 15 mins it'll sound a buzzer at me for a minute or so and then shut down if I don't turn the ignition on. I'm just making a power supply for the 1TB drive, so we'll have PLENTY to watch at RRG!

What size wheel is that? I'm looking at them on ebay and can't decide between the 330mm and 350mm.

Off the top of my head its a 330. It's a fake OMP, a bloke on here does them for about £55 - Absolutely lovely wheel, the suede is wearing better than expected and it's a lot more rigid than my old £130 sparco wheel. I wouldn't have personally bought one to start with, but it's great to drive with, I'd buy another!

Considering setting off about 7 friday to miss the traffic, but I don't think we'll be allowed on the site at 11:30 ish?
