honestly mate use the 8p box for the afh, got one in mine and even that feelsa little bit too short, gt box would be a bit useless imo! That's interesting, I thought the GT box would be better for keeping the afh in the power band. I'm not planning on doing much motorway driving but even the GT box would get me up to 125ish before running out of puff. I'm a bit confused now, I'll have to do a bit more reading before I decide since I thought I'd already made up my mind! I do like short ratio high revving stuff though and it's not a daily. That said my £30 gt box will probably've shat itself after a few miles

Not really a major update workwise, but I've got the new clocks in and I bought some nice bits today. Firstly I'll need to do some troubleshooting because the clocks don't work properly. Actually they've been in for a while but I don't drive it much. Right now they only show (rather optimistic) speed. Meaning I have no idea how much petrol I have etc etc don't know when I'm indicating blah blah you know no big deal... I'm not holding my breath, might end up putting the old ones back in because I couldn't change the odometer into the new clocks. Chuffed with my birthday present from the missus though Check out the original box and instructions - never been fitted! Looks great and I've got a matching RAC sticker on the back window in place of the RR one (sorry no pics). Then today I popped down to Euro car parts and picked up some bits n pieces. They didn't have everything in stock so there's more to be delivered. That's antifreeze, oil filter, plugs, cylinders and G40 vented disks Waiting for delivery of my G40 calipers and braided hoses. Still need to buy pads, poly engine mounts, poly rear axle bushes, engine oil, gearbox oil, an oil breather (I broke the original one getting the lump out) and a catch can. Not long to go now, exciting times.

Although on a serious note your project has inspired me to get a bleddy move on. Actually if you fancy having a look at the clock with me that would be awesome. I'm sure there's a trick i'm missing. As for the gearbox debate, well I have different people telling me different things. It's not meant to be too practical, comfortable or particularly fast, just fun - and I like the idea of it already being on cam when I shift up. Anyway, I will make my mind up just before I bolt it together! ;D

So long time without an update, but as per my last post, I finally got all the bits I needed together for the brakes. Now with all the fluid (hopefully enough lol) and the calipers, all i needed were the hoses and pads. yay And if you look closely, those are not normal pads hopefully they live up to the hype. So, out comes the car and up she goes. as as if by magic, on they went Wasn't that simple actually, using the old carriers meant I had to buy a few longer bolts and sleeves, but hey it's never that easy is it? Right now I'm waiting to borrow a compressor to flush out the system, then she'll be all done. Recently picked up the poly enigine mounts I'll need (pics soon) and a new oil breather for the AFH. More to come soon then - but in the meantime I'll leave you with a Polo Parade pic: ;D

I was lucky enough to get a lift in this to the West Sussex pub meet last week. It sounds lovely, is very responsive and goes pretty well too. Considering Martin was giving it beans a lot of the time it was quite economical which is a Billybonus. ;D 'Tis a cool car, me likey!

Basically I didn't have a press when we were putting the lump in and I wanted it to be done for RRG. Reason I know they're good is because a few people I know have them and I've been in a car that has had them done. SO The new lump is running pretty sweet. I've also managed to get the new exhaust on (pics will come soon) and also yesterday I got the carbs properly set up on a rolling road. Clicky linkyPretty chuffed. ;D RRG tomorrow - not a moment too soon!

I was at The Gathering. It was a great show! although my car was not on display, or even in the Retro Parking, as according to what i'd heard it was Too new. Then i saw a N reg mondeo in the Retro Parking, and a 61 plate scirrocco in the show . I saw your car. Watched you going up the hill, it looked and sounded great. I'd have had a go if mine wasnt so underpowered.

I'd have had a go if mine wasnt so underpowered. I'm glad you said that, everyone else said it was smoking a bit! And there is no such thing as too new or too underpowered. Your car is more than cool enough - in fact it would have been one of the ones I wanted to see the most as I've read your build thread. As for my car, well at the moment it seems like every time I fix something another thing breaks. The timing is out thanks to some rotor arm trouble, the brand new exhaust system was leaking REALLy badly (from the mani, the backbox and the centre section) I had two duff HT leads (borrowing 2 off a ford) and now I've completely lost 1st gear. Did I mention the smoking? - The exhaust is now (as of yesterday) fixed, sounds amazing and goes much better.
- HT leads are replaced thanks to MantaPhil who is a legend (i can even get the engine cover thingy on over these ones)
- New rotor arm on, although the timing needs doing again.
- And I'll have to chuck my old 8p gearbox back in since I cant afford to buy another GT box (in fact I can't even find one).
- As for the smoke, well I think it's valve seals. If it was rings it would smoke more constantly from what i've read, but we'll see after a few compression tests.
Not driving it at the moment as I'm worried about the clutch - starting out in 2nd is not good for it! More to come soon.

I love this, looks like a right weapon on that video, however the gearing does seem a bit long. Cosmetically, its perfect. Could probably do with some GT seats in there though, I bet the povo spec seats aren't too supportive?
