Thought it was about time to stick up a thread As the title says I learnt my lesson. I love all cars, but there is something special (well for me) about the humble Ford Sierra. Anyway, this is my third jelly mould and it found me. I was a work and a customer came in asking if I knew anyone who would be interested in a cheap Sierra................... well the rest is history ;D Some pics of when I first picked it up..... The car is fairly solid but looks ropey, which suits me just fine when I picked it up the guy I brought it off said that he had run it out of petrol and ever since it was holding back. He seemed to think it was the fuel filter that was block, which I changed (and it was full of curse word!) this made it a little more drivable but still not great. So I changed the pump and tank, which has cured the problem completely, some pics.... New pump..... New tank..... I hate the soft spoke Mondeo rims, so when a mate offered me some cheap 15" TSW Imola wheels with some decent tyres I snapped them up...... Also got rid of the foam steering wheel that seems to plight 80's Fords, and brought a leather Nardi wheel out of an Impreza for £5. Much nicer, same size but firmer grip oooh errrrr.... Next up is to get my bucket seat, which is a lovely supportive Momo one. Only problem is the horrid colour! This is the bit that I'm going to get slatted for but hey who cares "My ride, my way!" I'm going to remove the viscous coupling from the gear box turning it to RWD and chop the springs. I've also got a 3.92 diff on it's way to me, which I'm going to get welded up. The old 3.62 LSD will be sold to refund some of the original cost. Anyway I welcome any abuse or comments

I'm going to remove the viscous coupling from the gear box turning it to RWD and chop the springs. Not enjoying the limpet like grip...? And good to see its still got its fuel pump cradle, normally they're 90% cable ties and 10% rust...! ;D

Does the Impreza steering wheel fit straight on the Ford column/ A lot of potential, sadly it isn't a Volvo 480

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I had one that sat that high! The grip was nuts but VERY VERY boring, I think your doing the right thing making it proper wheel drive, and welding the diff is stroke of genius! That seat will look good I reckon, bit bright but at least its a decent bucket! My one curse word me off rotten with its squeeky plastic dash!! I took the top off the air filter and bungee corded the filter in place and it sounded feckin awesome!

one question... what color is she going?? ;D Thinking about using the white as a base for a black, grey and white digital camo. Not enjoying the limpet like grip...? The V6 Colonge isnt the most powerful of engines and the 4wd system takes too much power out of it (doesn't really feel any quicker than my 2wd 2.0i hatch). Plus I do love a bit of sideways action, so with the lower ratio welded diff and rwd it should be good ;D Does the Impreza steering wheel fit straight on the Ford column/ A lot of potential, sadly it isn't a Volvo 480 The steering wheel although OE is fitted to the Impreza using a boss, thankfully I still had the old mountney boss of my other Sierra so it was just a case of swapping the boss and on it went. I do miss my Volvo 480 Turbo, if I was in the market for a fwd I think I'd be looking for another 480 Turbo. You can make them go really quick for sooooo little money, it's made of win! Hey mate, your bonnet isn't open.... ;D ;D might have to remedy this I had one that sat that high! The grip was nuts but VERY VERY boring, I think your doing the right thing making it proper wheel drive, and welding the diff is stroke of genius! That seat will look good I reckon, bit bright but at least its a decent bucket! My one intoxicated me off rotten with its squeeky plastic dash!! I took the top off the air filter and bungee corded the filter in place and it sounded feckin awesome! Yep 4wd doesn't really float my boat either! And I've had a welded diff in my last three rwd cars and IMO it's a must. As for the air box idea, I may well do that!

Weather was good and I had a half day off work so this afternoon, I went round my mates house and used his mig welder to put my seat in. I brought some box section inorder to make a frame to bolt the seat too, but as it turn out the original seat unbolted from the subframe leaving two runners which lined up with the butchered side mounts I had been given! It was just a case of cleaning the paint off and welding the runners directly to the original Sierra subframes ;D Jono getting funky with the angle grinder Ta Da! All done ;D Just need a harness now. Next up it's chopping time

Done a few little bits, painted the front bumper (badly) but at least it's the same colour I also fitted the harness I stole out of my mate long, long, long, long term S13 project. Which wont see the road of a few years ;D So I don't feel bad!

The 3.92 diff arrived! It was promptly cleaned with lots of brake cleaner, then blasted with a good amount of very hot mig wire ;D I would like to thank J_K a user off Tramp Drift who welded it for me. Operation 2wd: skid skid win win; will hopefully be completed by the end of July. All that's holding me up now is money for a clutch. Can't see the point in taking the box out and not replacing the clutch, especally as the release bearing is really noisey.

Nice, a short ratio 100% sper diff.
I think you should extract the yellow/red theme of the seat to the outside of the car.

Right dispite the new tank being an "injection" tank with swirl pot, the new tank don't seem to prevent fuel surge hadn't really noticed it as I haven't driven it much since putting the new tank in and I filled the tank right up. Now when the tank is under half full the car splutters when cornering hard FFS!!!!!! So now I'm trying to find a decent second hand OE tank to fix the problem I've created! plums! So if anyone has a Sierra fuel tank from a injection car let me know great you got another one I really liked your old nato green sierra shame you've not still got the coilovers though Yeah coilovers would be ace, but my old ones won't have fitted the 4wd front hubs. So not all is lost. Depending on how long I keep this one depends on if I shell out on coilovers again!

Just a bit of something for you to enjoy, perhaps. My friend's Ford Sierra 4X4, ex-vicar owned, now proper rally car. It's a bit of a monster, but a lot of fun.

Operation 2WD was a partial success, yes the car is definatly RWD but making the gearbox 100% RWD was a bit of a ball ache and has left the gearbox a bit knackered! Anyway I took the diff and gearbox off, fitted the lower ratio welded diff, replaced the clutch and then started taking the transfer box apart. It was easy to see what need removing to disable the FWD part of the gearbox........ HOWEVER I didn't really understand what was involved with making sure all the power went to the rear wheels! I took the viscous coupling out and realised that it wasn't quite as simple as I had imagined (sat on the toilet reading the haynes manual!) So I gave my mate a ring (who is regarded as being a fairly epic welder) and asked him kindly if he could welded various parts of the viscous coupling to each other. So thats what he did! Happy days...................... well almost in my haste to reasemble the gearbox I must have damaged the seal between the gearbox (full of gearbox oil) and the transfer box (which was filled with ATF fluid) FAIL! So I currently have a gearbox which is losing oil at a fair rate into what used to be the transfer box. Photo of evil viscous coupling Anyway I'm currently trying to sort a proper V6/Diesel Type-9 gear box and proper RWD propershaft inorder to get rid of a pretty awful bodge. At the moment the gearbox is slowly getting more noisy, while I keep topping it up with gear oil. On a lighter note it seems to skid quite well. In other news I've cut the front spring (rears to get the chop very soon) and increased caster by using the extra washers on the ARB trick. And also sourced another fuel tank! This time a secondhand OE one.

Good to see you're back at home with another Sierra! I've still got to cut the rear coils on mine too, dragster stances all round it seems.

Anyway finished cutting the rear spring tonight and this is the result........ Sits nice and level, with the back ever so slightly higher. Please forgive the rotten arch ;D
