Never bonded at all with my first car, a beige 1.0 MiniMetro. Bought it at 16 and it turned out to be epically shagged but with help it did see the road again and I learned to drive in it (well between that and a Kia Pride ) I thoroughly abused it, the engine lost oil pressure below 1500rpm when hot (that was with the pressure relief valve packed out with washers!) but it never quite died. It broke often tho and I think all bar a couple of my memories of it are of bodging it up In the end we bought a whole donor car for an engine and I spent a week welding that rather than put up with the other one any longer. My Kadett on the other hand I've had 14 years, on the road for most of that too. Only been off the road for a year but I miss it intensely and can't wait to find the time to get stuck into it. I have thought about selling but I know I'd regret it and I don't think I could ever replace it.

Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

My 1st car was scrapped at the end of the 1st year on the road (had a better shell so swapped out the better mechanics and made a good one out the 2), but I do still have my wifes 1st car. 14 years on and its been rebuilt a few times. she ran it as a stock mini for 4 years on and off (whilst at college and Uni), I then rebuilt it as our wedding car (must scan in the pics 1 day ), then did some sprints in it then it got laid up, engine and interior into other minis but I couldn't bring myself to part with it so it sat in the corner of me mates lockup A couple of years past and decided to do some trackdays, so a 90 BHP weber fed 1275 was slotted in and a rattle can paint job added another year and decided to add some red flaked paint then swapped the engine for a vaux lump and a clubby nose And now i'm rebuilding it again, to a spec that will ensure its long term survival with me If forced, i would sell up all my other cars and push this into daily service, too much history with it. Dread to think how much I have spent on it over the years (its had 6 different engines, 4 interiors, on its 4th respray, 4th set of rims, 3rd braking set up, 3rd front end) but I can never see us parting with it.

Not my first by any means (that was a Samba), but certainly longest owned at 8.5 years: It's now a "second" car, having seen off 3 Mercs, various company cars and a Tucson. Don't think I'll ever sell it, however a Rover/stick interface is imminent... Will be retro soon, since not only is the car out of production, so is the company! This 190E was one of my faves, but a change in job at the time made it impractical. Still on the road in the town where I live: My first early car that lasted a few years was this one. Some GR16 memories of "Henry" as he was called: Sadly, killed by the evil tinworm, as many 87 'Scorts were.
