y'know, this sort of thing seems to be popular with the JDM boys, i'm requiring a bit of inspiration for my latest butchering and was wondering what you thought/have any pictures?

Interesting. Would Mr Policeman get slightly cross at those edges though?

Doubt it, they're not poking out. It's a good way to eliminate rust at the bottom of a wing too - just lop off the whole lot in one fell swoop!

not sure, mine have been done a little better than just taking mr cutty grinder to them: just trying to finish them off, around the bottom edge and the such but i can't really work out what's for the best. might finish them with some flat skirts or something

You know if you'd have explaned that to me in words I'd have had a one word reply, gash. But in the flesh it actually works really well. Thou extra lowness would make it look even better as it'd highlight the gap behind the wheel - but I'm sure thats coming Around the bottom edge I'd fold them over - or roll around some stiff wire, to give them a more finished/oem look - you know, like the bottom of a door skin edit for extra content

Why? I can't see any benefit.

it'll reduce air pressure around that area and create less drag, theoretically, not to say that's the reason i've done it of course. but if everything needed a reason we'd probably never leave the house some more pictures: sorry they're all MX5's but I guess that's all i've been hunting for ;D

yeah, i need a set of fronts similar to those, you can get them MX specific though. rears i'm going to run overfenders, not buying them until i've got wheels though otherwise it'd look a bit daft just looking for inspiration on the cutaways first though hence the thread

It looks ok if you fold the lower part of the wing in. Not sure about having the inner wing & end of the sill open like the top ones though.

if you just chop the bottom of the wing off and leave it plod will just think your driving a heap, i had an accident damaged wing on an old cortina of mine and it cost me 3 points, a fine a trip to kent to go to court and it was folded in at the bottom pretty much like those cut of ones are where id been hit in the side and bent it up inside out of the way of the wheel.

should really start a build thread on here, I was a bit dubious as to it's retro credentials tho no fear of that.... the front page of the Readers Rides section has been full of MX5s this last week or so! Loving the sharkmouth, by the way. How quickly does it get filthy without the lower wings though? Joe
