Well she is going to my mates unit tonight (The one who sprayed christian1981's cavvy and owns the renault 5) . Were sorting out the rust around the sunroof and the small bit on the passenger side rear arch. Also respraying all the silver both sides apart from boot, respraying the roof and bonnet and sorting a few dinks on the bonnet also. The tops of the doors have some rust so thet will get sorted. The colour match on the anthracite isnt bang on and looks a shade darker to me but I would rather have that and the paint be nice and clean than the mighty worm slowly gnawing my roof away. Were also waxoyling all the underside and just having a general look over her to see if any other work is needed. Progress will probably be pretty slow as I'm working days and my mate (who works at same place as me) is starting a week of nights tonight but slow progress is better than no progress. I will post pics as and when I can. I'm also going to give her a change of oil again and new spark plugs and leads. Blimey, she will think xmas has come early.
Wish me luck

Wow nice example - I'm an old skool Ford man as a rule but dig any of the 80s hatches. I think the wheels would look good anthracite with polished lip...

Well finally some progress on the ole girl. Few dints sorted in the bonnet, and the rust done from around the sunroof. Also some panels prepped ready. Looks like she has had some sort of resto in the past too. Apparently the rust around the sunroof was due to a primer called NCT being used. I have been told when NCT was released it was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread but it wasnt very good against moisture which has caused it to bubble round the sunroof over the years. There was also 2 small bubbles of rust around the ariel. This is the cause. Someone obviously miss judged where to drill the hole :-o Unfortunatly its been too cold to get any painting done!!!! I have also come up with a little side project. I have got a mini moto which I painted in the same silver as my modified astra H. Which happens to be almost the same silver as the old un. I'm going to use the left over anthracite colour and do a celebrity theme on the moto. Down to the pin stripes.

If I'm honest, I'm really glad you didn't go for those original wheels. Those look FAR better. Got a lot of time for stuff like this.

Alas, the rims are not mine. I borrowed them for a while for a car show and try out the size. I'm going down the banded steel route I think.,,. Does anyone know if this kit from the 1300 SR nova would fit my engine? I recognise 3 maybe 4 of the hoses but not 100% sure

Again. An absolute age since updated. Long storey short, I got bored over the winter so decided to tackle the split seam sealer and 2 small spots of rust in the bay. In the end I've changed the bay colour, redone all the engine and gearbox, freshened up under the arches and the suspension, and bought numerous goodies This is what the engine and the bay looked like. Before After . Well, a bit more. New K&N New radiator New fuel pump Minty freshen up the alternator, doing the master cylinder and servo next.... And a quick engine shot with the brace in and painted

Certainly looks much brighter in the Bay & Arches now! Thought the alternator picture looked like a toy cartoon robot character.

Wish i had the patience to do so. I like building but i never find the time to put the effort in to make an enginebay so stunningly beautiful. Wish rembrand van rijn and van gogh painted enginebays... that would be good art and totally sellable to my spouce. great job

Bit of an update on this, since picking her up have done a full service, 4 new struts and 60mm lowering springs, and fitted a powerflow backbox. I'm going to give it a new coat of paint too shortly and do the usual waxoyling etc. Just got to get paint codes. There is a paint shop by me that has a camera which will take a pic of the paint and do a near as dammit match but paint codes would be better. The one on the vin plate is for a black?? [img src="http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r116/ bighed123/Picture453.jpg"] This takes me back I used to go out in a mates just the same and I had a red 1.3 more door A black 1.6 sr A gte

Wow don't know how I ever missed this! I used to have a red 82 Y 1300L and a brown '82 Y 1300GL back in the '90s, great cars! I fitted SRi steels to the red one to counteract the over steering issues and it had grille mounted spots.
I will try and dig some pics out if your interested
