This is a very nice car. I read your thread when you first posted it up and funnily enough was actually looking for it only yesterday while trying to find details of your mate that refinishes seats - I might be calling on him to have a look at some seats of mine Glad to see you've put the teardrops back on for Winter, the OG's wouldn't last too long on the salty roads. They do look awesome on the car so a good move keeping them protected until the better weather is on its way. If you're not doing much on the 14th>16th Jan, please feel free to pop down to Area 52 to meet a load of the guys from here. You're in Bristol, so that's the hard bit sorted (most of the others come from all over the country and even Europe) Looking forward to more updates on the car. I might have some spare black interior parts kicking around from my Mk1 Turbo that I sold last year. My current Mk1 is about to be sold, but that has the blue interior, so won't need any of the bits I've got (I've also got some SuperCharger rear lights if you're interested?)

Very kind of you to invite me down. Does seem silly not to! I knew I had seen a mk1 MR2 in the Area 52 thread but there didn't seem to be a readers ride thread to go with it. How come you are selling? The turbo must've been a fantastic car to drive. Think I'd find it hard to turn down a set of SC lights for this. Damn you!

Always nice seeing those AW11's, there's so many standard ones about, strange how they were never modified innit? My floor went in the same place, they rust horribly around there.

DavidB - I always wonder that! I definitely wouldn't mind going a bit beyond just a mild drop on a Koni kit and wheels. Not because there is anything wrong with that, simply because it's all you ever see. jonnie - I recognise that car of yours and yeah it's far too nice to be out on these salty roads. you are lucky in that you don't need to go through the hassle of rear arch repair.

Another job undertaken this weekend! When Bruce/Mystery Machine told me he had a set of JDM/US rear lights I couldn't resist. They weren't high up on my priority list in all honesty but I had always liked them and he is only a short drive away from me in Bristol. So I went over to his unit, which is a cave of weird and wonderful car bits and bought them. There was no boot lock, which didn't bother me as you can always use the internal release lever. There was also a TOM'S sticker on them, which needed ripping off and the residue removing but other than that they are in mint condition. The thing I hadn't bargained on was the fact that they mount to the boot panel quite differently to the standard lights. Because of the location of the numberplate lights you need to drill 4 new holes for the bolts and cut 2 large new holes for the bulbs to go in. One one side the wiring for the numberplate light needs extending. Huge respect to Bruce as he took time out of his Saturday afternoon to fit them for me, which took a good couple of hours of taking bits off, drilling, reaming and soldering! Extremely grateful and very happy with the end result. I've ordered myself some new import size plates (If Halfords tell you that they have them in stock don't bother driving over there to find out if they are lying or not) and will have to sort out a fog light for the MOT but that can wait as it's not till Jan 2012. JDM lights are a nice touch. I keep telling me though that at 150 quid they are not THAT nice. Then i seem them and start dreaming again!
I think white is the only colour i havent had a mk1 in yet. They look good when they are clean but the minute the back arches start with the acne they can look a bit ropey...
looking good though!

Its a flaw thats best nipped in the bud early mate, once it sets in it can be hard to chase if you try and fix it. Is it gonna be a long term car for you?

You're right and I have learned that the hard way, check out the pictures of my old mk1 on the previous page. I am planning on keeping this for a long while, which is why I haven't gone mental with the cosmetic mods yet. I'm waiting 'till I have the funds to get the body properly sorted first. I have checked and double checked the real problem areas, the A and B pillars, floor pan and anti-roll bar mounts and they are all solid. It's mainly the rear arches that need attention. Plates have turned up now:

Got a little shopping list of parts going on at the moment. Collecting bits as as the car is booked in for welding (with ruishy1 at the end of the month and I want to replace a few other things before I get it painted up. As always nothing is simple is it!? First up Toyota tell me I can get the LH but not the RH front valance panels! What's the bloody use in that. So I will have to see if my existing one is salvagable - or I will be putting an advert in the wanted section soon! Then the tyre fitters ring me up and say they can't (but I have a feeling the answer is more like won't) put the tyres on my alloys that were refurbished. They say that the stretch on the sidewall is too extreme. The size is 195/14 on an 8J rim. The same place put a 175/50 on my friend's alloys (also 8" wide) which is a bit confusing and another inconvenience to sort out. ...and I almost forgot to mention the fact that my car was broken in to last week to compound the frustration! Repair panels for the rear arches on both sides, along with a new bumper reinforcement bar should arrive at work on Friday. Fingers crossed! These are some bits I've already had sand blasted/painted: And here are the tyres that are deemed too stretchy! I bet you RRers have never seen such extreme stretch before. 1,000,000 scene points to me.

Mojo has been running a bit low lately with various things (such as break ins) halting my planned progress with the refresh/resto. It was sunny today so I slapped on my OGs that have recently received fresh rubber, went for a drive and took some photos. It's a bit of pic-whoring but some people had asked to see what the wheels looked like on the car before. They are fitted without spacers or anything but seem to sit pretty well in the arches. I think the rears could do with coming out a bit or possibly a bigger tyre size to make them stand out more? I finally managed to get hold of some decorative bolts (for the fake split effect!). I used www.titanium-touch.de who aren't cheap but the bolts look quality. I had to tap in threads in to the wheel rims as the ones that were in there before were just plastic plugs that looked like bolts. Tacky much!? Tomorrow is an exciting day, I have the day off work to strip some bits off the car and drop it off at the bodyshop to fix the rusty bits. At long last! Chris

Cool! Those wheels look ace! I say keep the wing- they look odd/unbalanced without it. I had a supercharged mk1 back in '94- it was soooo quick. I always wanted the T top though.
My brother lives in Bristol and he bought his first mk1 mr2 end of summer last year. He loves it and has been using it as a daily over to Wales for work. He is not so mechanically minded and I said I would ask about on here for anyone local to him for help. He too has rusty arches and would like to sort them. Anyone on here want to do a cashy? I'd do it my self but my welder leads wont stretch 12,000 miles....

My bank account curses you... the improvement seen by those SC lights has spurned me to fork out on more unneccesary parts for my mk1!!

As I mentioned before, my car is booked in for some work at Peel's Motorkraft and Monday was the day to 'drop it off'. Dropping it off isn't really the right term because in a bid to save precious pennies I wanted to strip down all the trim myself. The bodyshop were good at this point, allowing me to use their workshop all day. In fact the day came and went and I didn't leave till half 9 at night! The job probably would have been done on time if it wasn't for my worst enemy... Captive nuts I hate you so much. But I got there in the end and the car is now looking very bare. For the next 2-3 weeks I'll keep popping back to check up on it and they also say they'll keep images of it updated on the website as they do with all their customers cars, which is a cool touch I actually went down there this afternoon but not much had happened since Monday due to some other projects they are finishing. Got a really nice Corvette and an SD1 both undergoing full resprays... lots of interesting stuff to look at in their workshop and on their website. Here are some pics - I also got some new decals made up by a guy off the mr2mk1club forum, which should look awesome:

looking good! Sucks about the break in by the way. Did they get much? On the plus side some rear quarter glass is an easy thing to source a-la eBay, and its an easy fit too...
