I don't often put my cars on here, because I never do anything fast enough.
But this project I need some help with so I am.
First of all, last week I spotted this on gumtree... a 1990 BMW 735i Auto that had been laid up for around 7 months after a few years of weekend service for a long-term owner. Saw it advertised last Monday and went to see it Tuesday night (I think).
Absolutely loved it on sight, despite mix&match wheels, and damp boot... had a CD changer, cream memory electric leather, all the usual refineries, ran well, early M-tech 2 wheel worth a fortune that I've been looking for for 6 months after selling my first one for half the price of this car...
Drove it home (entirely on private roads) and it really, REALLY struggled to do anything over 30mph. new dose of petrol and a good run on that private motorway and eventually after many long hours it reached 60 and was able to cruise home. Not selecting very well and definitely not running on all 6.
It's a lovely place to be though, but I was disheartened. Not as much as when it almost conked out on me with about 6 miles to home. Nevermind that, I can fix it... the whole trip was marred by sketchy front end handling but 2 miles from home this developed into SERIOUS judder above 40mph that signalled something was badly wrong.
I drove it into the yard, and then drove it into the field, and there it has sat since.
I don't/didn't want to break it - it's far too nice.
Anyway some late night gumtree-ing the next day and I came across an ad for a car that was a month old, and I thought, hey, could give that a try for the craic. Well, the car was still there, and I arranged to meet last night (Monday).
I fell in love with this as well.
November 1991 M30B35 in Diamondschwarz (met. black) with shadowline trim and tan leather interior, all the extras (air. con etc) and Schnitzer wheels probably worth more than I paid for the car if genuine.
This car was sitting since last June but regularly driven up and down the lane to keep it all free, so I would be buying a good base car that needed only some mild tidying and on the road I would be.
Until I arrived that is, and we set off for a quick test-drive, and the gearbox wouldn't select reverse. so we drove forward, then it would reverse, and wouldn't go forward! Took 6 runs to get back up the lane, wouldn't move under 4k revs, bogging down... Anyway... to cut this short...
God was watching out for me. The car was cheap but expensive by my tastes, but because the box broke I got it for half the price and had it delivered 10 miles for diesel money tonight (Tuesday).
The car drove on to the trailer and drove off the trailer. Mr. P. Owner was pretty gutted by that.
I'm pretty certain the starter motor is sticking and causing grief, but also I figure I could maybe change over the gearbox ECU and selector contacts just to be sure (have them anyway)
So between them I have two disasters that should yield one awesome car.
I should also point out that 2 months ago I bought a set of 17" BBS split rims off gumtree for £60, in the correct fitment for an E32/4. Jealous much?
