...and the scrapper would have been me!) Remember a thread at the start of the year asking what everyone intended to get in 2010? One of my three wishes was an E28. Well, here it is. Based on the description it sounded like it was going to need some serious work, so I went to see it as a breaker. I looked round it in the dark but even then I had my doubts. But when it got to my house and I poked around it today, I decided it's not going to meet that ignominious end. It needs work, but nothing like what I thought - a new wing, centre exhaust section, and fuel pump. Even the tyres are good, the interior is very clean, and all the sills and door bottoms seems solid. Well its an '88 525e M20 Auto (with Sport mode) in Delphin Grau Metalik with full black leather interior. That's all I know though.

Good save, the m535 body kit is worth a few bob on its own. Check the rear subframe bushes as not only are they a pig to change they tend to rust at the subframe mounting points and that's game over unless you're really handy with the welder. That's what did my one in, in the end.

Just bought my E28 a brother. 1987 525e Auto with a couple of months MOT with no detectable faults apart from a flat battery. Pick it up later in the week. Lachs silver I *think* but it was dark. Time to get shot of the 730 - pronto - I'm driving an E28 as a daily from Friday!

This silver E28 is one of the best cars I've ever owned! Even drives well in the snow. I live up this big steep hill which is covered in ice at the moment. It drives up it so steadily that I have to kick the throttle if I want a bit of slippy-slidy. Have as yet not found anything wrong with it, at all. Unless a squeaky exhaust counts? Probably not! Now rollin' pinks (not my pic)

front air dam on the first 525e is a rare one mostly of m5's i thought. not part of the m535i kit on the rest of it. Nice to see them not bieng scrapped

are you putting the leather and m kit from the other one on this?

Nope, slowly restoring the Delphin one and when it's done I'll sell the Lachs one!
Didn't realise there was a difference in the kit pieces but I guess that explains why the front end doesn't have the lines like most M-tech pieces of this age do

Some fabulous news. Seems that my welding actually passes scrutiny and the silver one today is mot'd for another year, woohoo! failed three weeks ago on the two front sill corners rusty (fist sized holes) and a 5p hole on on rear sill/jacking point, and a loose nut on one of the front control arms which just needed nipped up.
Also putting it onto a new (to it) set of flat-faced 15" wheels with a little lower profile, seem to suit it well. I'll blat around in it for another month then sell it once another couple of projects start getting mots.
Having had the welding officially approved (I had a major welding mojo loss when all my welding on the old Shogun was declared "rubbish" and prised off at its mot) I'm back onto planning with the delphin one. I'm no longer satisfied with the 2.7eta engine. I'm thinking manual conversion, and a minimum of 3500cc. Thoughts anyone?
