Anyone else BMX on this forum?? Yep. IS THAT ROM? I used to ride early to mid nineties and still have my ultra rare standard lenghthy which is no 163 of 200 of the first ever batch of standards sitting next to me by my computer here. Got to fat to ride kept breaking 10mm axles(14mm was'nt heard of then).

Used to ride BMW until I was about 16. god a decent road bike and used to put in loads of miles. Then I discovered mountain bikes. My first decent bike was a British Eagle (decent stuff) Cromo frame, LX bits. that got upgraded until only the frame and forks was left. The frame was replaced with a generic Alumium frame. then the bits again upgraded. Until All I had left was the Aluminium frame. That got upgraded to a secondhand AMP B2 and F1 full suspension frame set. Again, lots of bits were upgraded and then the frame was needing bushes replacing. After that I bought a Mountain cycle Sanandreas frame, and a set of JR T forks, and moved all the bits over.
The current spec is 1997 MountainCycle SanAndreas. 1999 Marzzochi Jr triple clamp forks USE Seat post and Xlite Kevlar and Ti saddle. Worldforce stem GRAY racing handlebars Ringle needle roller headset. FSA crank, Welgo platforms and Rocky Mount CroMo bottom bracket. Wheels are Mavic 213 rims and Hope Ti hubs assembled by Dave Hinde with WTB primal Raptor tyres. Sram Gripshit 900 shifter, and Sram carbon fibre front and rear mechs.
nice bike. But it has been sat in the shed for almost the last 5 years since I passed. Now I've quit smoking, I really need to get riding again.
I must take a photo some time. I really miss caning it round Delamere forest.

Good work jonny69, at first i was thinking whaaat! I used to have one when i was 8 as my dad was too tight to buy a new BMX, so i put a plastic tube on as a makeshift crossbar! it worked to stop 99% of people thinking its a girls bike. But with the stretch it looks fantastic instantly. Great! Before most of the production choppers i began planning how i'd build one, seems others were thinking the same. I got back into BMX for a while in the 90's when i kept breaking xc bikes as they were too fragile, i was never that good, but love getting out. that faded and a few year back got a identiti Dr Jekyll to be best of both worlds, missed my BMX so built this retro inspired racer a 16 months ago to hoon about on on my way to work. library picture

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Some of us have more in common than i'd imagined, inevitable though, the skills and ideas do cross over. I'm on my second Dr Jekyll xl now, both the newer type, upgraded for hydraulics and white bros forks, but i've yet to dial em in properly!

my bike... ...its nothing special. nothing has been changed on it, it is exactly the same as it was when i got it 5 yrs ago. thats fine, except that it is actually a kids bike and i'm now 16... i really should get a new bike, but it just keeps working, and i've ridden to so many places on it...only last year it went to norway and scotland on two seperate occasions...covering around 100 miles each time. it just keeps going. i'm thinking of repainting it and fitting new gears in the summer, or i might just keep hold of it for a run around and get a proper touring/mountain bike. i've never ridden a BMX, but never been that taken by the idea of not being able to go that fast...

Yeah the idea was dreampt up when at the 24 redbull mountain mayhen a couple of years back, they wanted to go with halogen lights but i pushed them towards the LED's got all the circuitry working and suppliers sorted. Lots of problems trying to get them bright enough, but sorted in the end!
I built a bike for my GCSE project out of kevlar and nomex honecomb, i may chop it up to make my low rider, hmmmmm. Well have to wait and see!

Rmad can testify that I bought a BMX again a few years ago, I remember when I could ride one (the early 80s) but unfortunately, my body didn't ;D so I sold it on. Still, I've got ichy fingers to build a lowrider, and the insirational piccies above are helping I'm even going to cut up a Chopper frame to do it with!

24hr mountain bike race, can have 4 in a team, or if you're mad enough can do it on your own. I'm doing two of them this year as part of a team, one in June & one in August. They're great fun!
