This has been a long term project that has now been going on for the past 2 years. Just never seem to find the time to work on my own car. The full thread can be seen over on the OMOC web site as there is too much to re post up on here. If your interested. linkAnyway here's what I've been up to the last few days. Drivers side chassis leg is now complete and at last I have some strength back in the shell. Spot welds drilled out to remove section of floor to tunnel. New floor section fabricated. New section welded in and given a coat of weld through primer to protect it once the new rail is in place. New inner rail welded in place. New swan neck welded in place and trial fit of rear extending rail. New section of rear cross beam fitted. That the drivers side sorted ;D Next was to have a look at the bottom of the A post. As most will know this area is prone to rot, it was not too bad but the metal was quite thin after cleaning it up, so I decided to try and make up a new section. (Thanks to reading the body work thread on here) Old section I wish to make. I decided to make it up out of 3 pieces of sheet steel welded together. 1st piece after shaping. Test fit. Second piece. Welded together. After a bit more work and fettling this is what I ended up with. Not to bad. Fitted in place to see what it looks like. I will fettle it in more as I weld it in place, but I'm very happy with the result.

Is that the one that was featured in Street Machine about 10 years ago. Matt Yes, it was in the May 2001 edition. It has been featured in a few mags over the years, and was on TV a few years back. I think the program was Petrol heads or something like that, it is repeated every so often on Sky. It will be along the same lines, but I have a few new mods being added. ;D

It's been a while, but I throught I should update this a little. I have not manage to get the car to media blasting as yet, mainly due to money. When you work for yourself and not alot of work is about some things have to take a back seat. I started to make up a new panel for the drivers floor, but as I wish the car to look as original as possible, I was not happy with what I could acheive. After a lot off time and concideration, I deceided that the only way to do it correctly was to find the money and buy replacement floor pans from Germany. No problem finding the panels, Leidinger Tuninghave them listed on thier Ebay site, but at close to £400 for the compleat set that was the media blasting money gone. Well after having a realy good day on Sunday at the VBOA spairs day, I took the plunge and ordered the new floor sections on Friday night. After having contacted Leidinger Tuning to enquire about postage, the total bill came to just over £360. Now heres the good bit, when you think that they probably didn't get my order till Monday morning, how suprised was I when a big box turned up today. And this is what was inside......... The pressing are not too bad, front ones are good but the back ones will need a little fettaling to make them look right. March 19th. Having now got my new floor panels I have spent today working on the car and trail fitted the drivers side floor pan. My attempt at a floor pan. Front floor pan removed Rear floor pan Rear floor pan removed New floor pan trail fitted. From the inside. 3rd April Well at last I feel as if I am getting somewhere, Drivers side floor is now welded in and just need a little bit more cleaning up. Cut out and made a patch up for the rear floor section that sits under the rear seat, this is also now welded in place. Trail fit of the outer sill, all looks good. Front wheel well welded up. Just got to make up a new section for the rear jacking point and replace the rear lower corner and that will be the drivers side all finished....yipee 8th April Rear spring locator had a big hole so having drilled out the spot welds I could remove the locator. and this is what was to be found. inside was even worse. A coat of rust encapsulator after cleaning and treating. Now that looks better. Rear lower corner looked good until I removed the filler  and inside was not much better. As some will remember, I have moved the petrol filler cap and biult a battery box in this area of the boot floor, so I deceided that I would box this area off and remove the possible dirt trap. And thats the drivers side welding all finished. The passenger side will now have to wait a few weeks as I have some paying work to do, but all is not lost, as I hope that the jobs I have to do will give me the monny I need to get the car over to media blasting. My intention is to get the shell media blasted and then make a start on the passenger side and sort out any other bits that show up after blasting.

That yellow one does not look too bad, and it must get some TLC because it looks clean and has a very nice shiny rear bumper. ;D
I did lose my mojo for a while, thats why it has been 4 years since I started working on it. But have managed to get it back over the last couple of months. ;D ;D ;D

Well it's back from the blasters, and the good news is that it is not half as bad as I thought it may have been. :thumbup :thumbup Before I add the pics, I would just like to say a big thankyou to Simon P and T & B Blast cleaning services, www.t-bblasting.co.uk for all thier help and a great job. I can't recomend then enough, realy nice guys. Anyway as they say, a picture is worth a 1000 words, so I'll let the pics tell the story. 5am and ready to go. D/S boot floor by wheel arch. D/S boot floor rear corner. Spare wheel well. D/S rear corner P/S rear corner D/S top A post P/S top A post P/S floor. Boot seal D/S door. P/S door And now from the underside.P/S Rear arches are good apart from a small area on the D/S. Generaly the underside is very good, Not worried about P/S floor as I have the new floor sections to go in here. www.mantacentral.co.uk/omoc/web uploads/v6/tn_DSCF1199.jpg[/img] Biuld date now very visable. Over all I am very pleased, for a shell that is 40 years old this year, I don't think it is in too bad a shape. :thumbup :thumbup

Respect man That is a big job but I suppose if you can fix one bit you can fix it all. Hopefully one day you'll be cruising around in it with your power steering

Sorry I've not updated this for a while, but here goes. Managed to get quite abit done over the past few weeks. P/s floor and sill now all welded in place. lower rear corner. Next to do was have a look at the d/s front inner wing, blasting had showen up poor metal work. and I even found a big crack in the chassie rail, this was around the area were I had cut the rail to mount the brake servo. As I am now having a remote servo, I can repair this section back to original. (Please excuse the **** welding that was done 13 years ago when I was a novice ) ) Right now it was time for a ciggy and a cup of tea, while I deceided how I was going to takle the job. After some hunting around I found a section of inner wing I had cut off that very rusty yellow Manta before it went to the scrapyard. As luck would have it, it was just big enough to replace all the small patches in one go. So the job I thourght would only be small has turned a bit bigger. Having cut out the old wing, this gave me better access to repair and strenghen the chassie rail and repalce a section of the top rail. You know how jobs just get bigger and bigger, well while repairing the rail I deceied that it would also be easyer to repair the bolk head while the wing was removed, so I have started to cut the bad metal out ready for a new section to go in. Other side of bluk head as it was: After refabrication. Shapeing of new section. Got my new custom sections back from the lazer cutters last week. This plate will be welded to the pedel box to convert it to a bais box. finished welding in the remaining baulk head section, but as i am still waiting on some other bits for the inner wing I can't do any more here. So I have made a start on putting the gear lever hole back to the original posision, which I changed when I fitted the 5 speed box meny moons ago. When i fitted the V6 I found that this moved the gear box folward and I had to extend the linkage ,so I am now going back to the standard linkage which ment repositioning the hole. More to follow when I've uploaded some more pics ;D
