Volksangyl, you are totally right, that would look awesome! I'm tempted to try that sort of theme, some photoshopping shall need to be done Rob, wirewheeling the underside has revealed a few small holes (and enlarged the bigger ones haha) but yes you are right, its fairly solid on that part! Other areas of my van arent so good though

Oh and also: Some more progress, although frightfully slow My pain killers are losing thier effectiveness so I'm pretty much a cripple now. Hospital appointment tomorrow though so yay! Engine crane got finished today (finally) so i got the engine onto the bench and started stripping it down... Sump came off easily, nice and clean inside, virtually no gunk which was suprising and a relief! Managed to crack several imperial sockets and still havent even stripped the engine yet... tempted now just to degrease it, paint what i can and refit as it is now... sodding thing! Gearbox has been cleaned up, and the steel part painted, whilst the alloy parts have just been cleaned down, i quite like them unpainted RACING GEARBOX! Or just red paint on the steel section Subframe has been waxoiled inside, so tomorrow itll have a last clean, then be primed and painted up, itll be a nice feeling getting all that back together!

An OD box is on the cards later on, its fairly easy to install so it can wait, i need to spend money in other areas first to get the old girl running first! I do intend on changing to a diesel engine later on so thatll require a different box anyway, although again, this is price and time dependant!
Regarding the discs, i am not sure what you mean? Would you mind elaborating?

Some more progress, ordered some new parts and they arrived, but then realised i need more haha Some more gaskets, thermostat and a new waterpump (my one had a hole, dead bearings and a cracked impeller) on their way to me... also need to collect some of that metal filler weld stuff to repair my thermostsat housing! £120 for the thermostat casings new, craaaaazzzzy expensive! So hopefully i can restore what i have got now. Subframe is now painted! Hopefully start building that up tomorrow, which will be a good feeling[ ] will be nice to see at least one thing going back together haha! Engine is mostly red (although looks pretty patchy and rubbish haha), freshly painted black sump fitted with new gaskets and a general clean is making it look 100x better than it did! I think the red has added 20bhp easily. Core plugs fitted, no thick gunk behind! Was really impressed, just a teeny bit of skank that some radiator flushing will sort out [ ] Decided it was about time to do the final strip down on my old toledo that i have had sitting about so that i can scrap it along with some other stuff (saab 9k and mk3 golf estate) to raise some commer funds, so thats donating a few parts potentially such as the fans (may be a little too deep though, i don't know how much room i will have) Tomorrow i hope to finally get stuck into rebuilding underneath the commer and getting familiar with my welder again! I have 1 more week until i go back to uni, so i really do want all the underside front completed and reassembled before i return...pretty big effort for somebody who can hardly walk right now, as well as doing it with just me, some jacks and my engine crane...yay

I remember doing a load of welding on one of these many years ago and thought about buying one and putting Mk 2 Granada V6 engine, gearbox and front suspension into make it drive better but never got round to it, you know what its like with too many projects on the go.

Good to read that you've been able to make a bit of progress on this, no matter how little. Do I spy a tractor in that last picture?

Yeah its a BMC tractor! It's mine to restore, currently looking for a replacement steering box Its not a leeson, its my own home made frame! Bikes for sale if you are interested haha A little more progress was made today. I started building the outer step, it looks rather untidy right now (photos seem to be making it look far worse haha) but all the angles and bends seem to be spot on so once its all properly seam welded and had a whip over with the flap disc, it should look the part. I decided to make it in several pieces as most of the bends were too awkward to achieve and this has worked for me before. Got a chance to use my swager properly today, turned out fairly well after i made a quick guide to keep the flutes straight!

I feel I should post in here just to make a mini trials-forum reunion I keep meaning to make my own frame, just a case of getting off my backside to order the tubing up, I'm slowly collecting parts to build it up once I've made a frame, haha. The camper's looking awesome Paul, and your work on it looks great. It should be a really cool van once it's done. I'm rather envious of your workshop and kit, I somehow live in Somerset but have no access to even a single farm building haha.
