Fso caro diesel is the box you want, also is the hunter a front ot rear sump?
Thanks for the info about the Caro - I'd never even heard of it before Sump has the bowl at the front, crossmember and steering gear are at the back.
In other news - having some engine problems, checked the silicone HT leads and found one them had fractured clean through the insulation Cut the damaged bit off and refitted the end, it should help the ignition system ;D
There are a few things in the pipeline for this but due to unforseen (but possibly very common) problems getting the seller to let me collect bargain Ebay purchases they will have to stay under wraps for now
A couple of todays attempts
ps - I bought xxxx on Ebay just over 2 weeks ago, it's a 150 mile round trip to collect, still no address or phone number from the seller and after 2 weeks of me asking when I can collect - no response at all for the first week - the only time they have suggested was 9am on a Saturday morning (which would mean leaving me setting off about 7am ) I have spare time for another week then things get hectic, am I being unreasonable in thinking the seller should have been able to give me some idea when I can collect before now
Used this as my daily for a while,it was me that sprayed the roof in a mediocre fashion just to see what it would look like!! Never let me down.
Brave man ! ;D Not sure I'd have the cajones to paint it glitter flake in the first place or admit to it if I did ;D I keep thinking about a repaint sometime but nothing decided yet Good to hear a bit about the history, any "lost" docs or pics always welcome
Had it about 3 years now and been using it as a daily for the last 2. It's never let me down or failed to get me home (even with the big water problem last time out - used 4 gallons in 50 miles ) Should be a few changes before next weekend if things work out
Well spotted. Possibly it's one of the very few remaining Hunter UTE models, these were an Export-only model aimed mainly at the Australian market (hence the unusual name) Originally it would have been fitted with a pickup body but there was a thriving backstreet bodyshop scene over there who would put a roof on any UTE (stops the sheep jumping out ) Roll forwards 40 years and it finds it's way back to UK and ends up in Wales where I found it ;D The modern equivalent would be a Truckman top, also very popular in farming areas
For reasons too predictable to go into here (mainly my stupidity ) I needed a new radiator.
Todays vote for good service at a fair price goes to ... Clearflow Radiators, Unit 20, North Road Industrial Estate, Meynell Road, Darlington, DL3 0QR Emal & phone numbers on their homepage www.clearflowradiatorsltd.co.uk/contact-us
Looks like a nice job but I've not had time to fit it yet. They have stripped the original rad and cleaned the housings, then fitted an upgraded core so it's standard size but slightly heavy-duty'ised Had a good chat to them about options and they seem to know their stuff. They also left the original fan shroud off for me when they rebuilt it so I can fit a 'leccy fan.
It would have been about 2 day turnaround but GPO were slow delivering the core (everyone else blames GPO - no reason they should be any different )
This may count as the first "real" money spent on the beastie since I got it, everything else has been 2nd hand or made to fit. This is custom made to suit the car and full price paid for it
Progress is slow here ( a mix of me needing to pull my finger out, and sub-zero temps outside which means I'm staying indoors with the blazing real wood fire and not going out to do good things) The daily has been a priority, that was MOT'd last week so I can get back to this now
If anyone has links on how to ID Rootes engines, can you let me know
Was told the new engine is 1725, would like to know how to confirm. High or low compression ? The ID plate by the oil filter should decode to give the spec - but I can't see a plate Rocker cover is shabby silver (or shabby chic in Ebay-speak :, you can tell the spec from the paint - if it's original?? Head is alloy ;D ... and has a single downpipe exhaust from the manifold which Speedy-Spares tell me is not possible Any ideas what car it was for? (I got it out of a Hunter / Sceptre)
