Thanks for all the comments guys. Yeah I've sold the other mk1 celebrity to Jon in shrops. He seems to be doing a grand job of it and good look. I'm keeping the smoke blue colour coz I just love it! The wheels are league retro star 15" x 8" (I think) , thought they'd suit the car better than going down the 17" modern wheel route. I thought about putting an sr kit on or some matt black arches, but need someone the photo shop to show me how it looks! Go on Pirate indulge in some mk1 love, you know you want to! lol Thanks again for the comments.

Am I right in thinking the paintwork is largely original? If so, it's in remarkable condition. It's a great colour too. Looks so much better being a non GTE kitted model. I can't remember when I last saw an early non hatchback version, there can't be many left now?

Very nice, I love MK1 Astras, I learnt to drive in a 1200s and it was my first car, I had three more after that one - I will own one again.....
Keep the round lights. Please.

yeah polobloke it is mostly original but there is afew small dents and scratches around the car but still good condition, NO Rust at all! lol I had a 1200 as my second proper car back in 1992, it was pristine and I mean pristine but I swapped it at 1 am in the morning with a bloke for a early mk1 golf GTI. When I looked at the car properly the next day I knew I'd got this worst deal. The bloke wouldn't swap back when I asked. A few weeks later he crashed the astra into a telegraph pole and died. Anyway on a happier note... I'm deffo keeping the round headlights, I've always liked them and are very hard to come by now because people changed them to the bigger lights. I've had a few offers for the round ones but they staying with me. I have 5 brand new sets of the big square ones in the shed that I'll get sell one day! lol

Thought I'd give a little update on my car.... After MOTing the Minx in April I have had a great six months of relatively problem free motoring and shows, I decided to get a bit more adventurous and up the power a little because the 1.8 8 valve GTE engine leaves me wanting a little more... I bought an unfinished project a few month back with a turbo motor, 6 speed gearbox and rear disc conversion. So in rolled the donor... The first job I wanted to do was the rear disc conversion. The one on Beau had two Anti Roll Bars and after researching, I believe it to be off a 16v mk2. I decided to renew the rear bushes which after spending a few hours attempting, I decided to give up and tackle at a later date because it was getting on my t!ts . Prior to buying this car, I had started to gather the parts to do this job anyway so I have a spare beam off a GSI so I decided to use that beam with the original bushes in but rebuild and transfer the stub axles off the 16v beam. So off came the original 1200 drum axle. I decided to build the other axle up and test fit it before it's nicely hammerrited and with new discs, pads, shoes and braided lines. Out with the old.... in with the new.... Everything fit's nicely and handbrake works. I just need to adjust (Bend) drivers side bracket to stop the cable rubbing on spring. Next job is to take it all off, give it a clean and a lick of paint. New pads, shoes and discs waiting to go on but need to order braided hoses. Any advice or comments welcomed.

those wheels are wonderful! loving ther colour of the car too cheers Stuart, I get a lot of comments on the wheels. I might just change the tyres for some lower profile ones but that can wait until after it's up and running again.

little update... After trial fitting the rear axle I took it off and gave the axle, stub axles and callipers a good degrease, wire brush and paint. I got all my kit ready to re-assemble.... found out the new disc's didn't fit so cleaned up the old ones for now. Braided lines turned up this morning. So I put it all back together and back on the car. Nice to see discs on the back for the first time, hopefully this will improve the dodgy eighties brakes. Next job is to strip the front end so I don't dent anything during engine change and front end spruce up.

I've been back in the Garage today and after a few hours work the Minx is almost naked up front. Got a lot of strengthening to do in prep for the new engine

this is smart as hell! love it! I had a Mk1 as my first car in 2000, it was old then!
you will be amazed by the turbo lump when you get it running mate, although my experience without a decent diff in the F28 is its a little scary!! I have the same engine in my MK2 cavalier, all I can say it it'll be worth it though.
It doesnt miss the GTE kit in that colour and the wheels are among my faves out there. fair play is all that is left to say!

I absolutely love this car! Although the colour match on that door is shocking! It's suprising how much a colour ages in 30 year years eh?
I actually had a picture of this car as the desktop background on my computer for ages, it's not one that you've posted in here though so I don't know where it actually came from!?

Thanks guys for the comments. I can't wait to drive it with the turbo in. The fastest mk1 I've driven in the past was a slighly modified standard 1.8 8v. The engine and F28 only has 80k so should both be decent enough. I bought an XE last year but when this came up I decided to go straight to Turbo and skip the XE stage! I have a spare door in the smoke blue colour that I got with my mk1 estate, so I'll clean that up and get it on this winter. I'd be interested if you could find that pic. It wasn't this one was it? I found this online and realised it was mine from the damage to the rear quarter.

next job to do was look at the front callipers and tart them up. I already had 16v jobbies on the minx but one think that's always bugged me was the uneven gap on the o/s one. It didn't seem to be gripping all the disc right so I compared them to the ones on the donor car which as you can see is even and they look in better condition. I stripped them down and give them a paint too. Didn't bother to paint the back because I'll only end up dripping brake fluid on them and ruining the paint and you can't see it anyway. I used standard car primer and paint because I've used it in the past and seems alright. put some new pads in and wrapped them all up to keep safe from knockes and sh!te. next on the list was to remove steering rack and tidy up. Since this was a 1200 it didn't have the damper on it like the GTE. I decided it might as well be shoved on. Both the steering gaiters had split on my steering rack. so a quick clean up and shiny new gaiters applied. and put it all back together. I didn't go over the top with the rack damper and brackets because I suspect the donor car has a better set but I can't really get to them yet and not going to struggle around an engine when it's coming out soon.
