Its been at the back of my head for a while, thinking about these cheap little cars. How much of a sensible choice are they? Coming from my TR7, i could pick up a really nice one for around £500. How reliable are they, and easy to drive on the motorway? Also whats the PCD of the wheels? They might look a lot better on nice subtle alloys. Main reason for choice is that it would be a lot more practical, solid 30mpg +, reliable. Cheers, Rob

Why would they not be sensible?, They are hardly prehistoric, Good poky 1300 cc, Lots of room inside, Honda based, I'd personally say they are one of the most practical retros about, and a bit of a billy bargain for what they cost. I still see a few of them about locally, one being used by a young family. VB's one above is a cracker, I saw it a few weeks back and it's lovely, well worth the money. 1983 Triumph Acclaim 1300 L by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

Cheers, i was thinking that there might be better options out there for the money (and on classic insurance), that was the only niggle.
Anyone have pics of them with non standard wheels?
Coming from a Dolly Sprint and a knackered TR7, what would they be like to drive? (I know FWD)

Other than the stick-on "Triumph" badge, what exactly is Triumph about it? Externally, it looks to be an exact duplicate of a HonDuh. There's 5 billion of those happily buzzing around here daily.

As Norm said. They're a Honda so I'd expect them to be eminently reliable. I think they're a very overlooked retro, which is surprising considering the popularity of J-tin. Maybe the FWD thing keeps prices low. Loads of potential I think. What's up with the TR7?

Haha, the TR7 will need a new engine at some point, and while has been relatively reliable (compared to my old Sprint) its not that quick, and would need money spending on it (suspension, engine, breaks etc). don't get me wrong, I love the 7, but its not quick at the best of times. I would rather have something that will 'do' for the moment, and be reliable / economical / practical. And yes its basically a Honda Ballade with a triumph badge

I know a few people who have had them and so long as you don't get a rotten one you are golden. comfy, reliable, and (I am told) surprisingly nimble.

Can you fit larger alloys in (14"/15")? The standard 13x4.5's look a bit small
