Hell..... didn't expect it would cause so much interest. Can't go through all the points raised cos there's far too many, but as far as I'm concerned I took it to the police and reported it as stolen. They told me that unless I had hard evidence that it was stolen, they would not treat it as such. I hadn't got any evidence only that no one in their right mind would dump a bike like that. He said that wasn't evidence, only speculation. He also said that the chain was only circumstantial evidence.... in that, maybe the owner of the bike simply couldn't find the key, so decided to dump it complete with chain.
He gave me the usual lecture about how evidence like that would never get a conviction in court. The bike was checked at the time for a VIN number and I've given it a really close looking at since, and still can't find a number on the frame. I have also pointed this out in the ebay ad' but no one on here who quoted from the ad' mentioned that bit either. If I were to post it as found abandoned on the forums without a means of identifying it, you can bet yer life a million and one folks are going to have lost one 'just like it' !
When I told the desk sergeant the lock up was full I meant it. I have had to shunt it all over the place for the last 11 months, despite the police phoning me up and telling me that I could keep it.... about 6 weeks after I took it in. I told them I'd give it till spring time just in case it's been stolen from a shed, and the owner hasn't been in to find it missing. I then told them I'd give it till summer 'just in case'!
As well as no space I haven't got the time to conduct a private investigation either. I am working on a project to register a new chemical so as I can sell it in here in the West. My redundancy money ran out in May and I am still at least 4 months from being able to supply any. Meanwhile I have bills to pay and my GF believes the lock up is a luxury at £75 a month.
Everyone tells me that this new product could make me a fortune and they are possibly right..... but the utility companies and the building society want their money up front in the mean time. I have had to borrow a substantial sum of money to cover the cost of the registrations of which there are 5 in total..... and some of you guys think that in all this I have time to play Clouseau as well !!
As far as I'm concerned I've given the owner plenty of time to come forward.... I am working my ass off such that I have had very little time to work on my project car, never mind mess with a bike. It's in the way of working on the project car and I could use the money right now.... although if circumstances were different I'd probably have kept it on cos I like it. Only reason I didn't mention that I'd put it on ebay in the original post was cos I didn't want the moderators to think I was trying to sneak an advertisement on to the 'General' board using the story as a cloaking device and lock the thread.
