There was a guy in the States who had used carb cleaner containing Trike to clean a panel before welding. He seriously messed himself up (permanently!) as the heat from the welding struck the cleaner and created a cloud of Phosgene. There was a thread on here about it some while ago with a link to his blog. Really scary stuff.

I welded a Dolly Sprint tank once.
It was washed and aired out for months.
As soon as I touched it with hte welder it caught fire!
I discovered that I can do the 100m quicker than that Bolt bloke! ;D

Here's how I got the GTM tank to use the pump and sender from the MR2. Note flat topped tank: (Not a brilliant pic.) Filled with water, with a lot of fairy liquid in it, then used an old SU fuel pump to circulate in the vent tube and out of the feed for half an hour into a bucket - so any petrol sat on top of the water reservoir - no chance due to the fairy liquid. Grinder action, and a bit of fitting later: Much more work later, including a sump for the pump, internal coating with POR and a nice lick of paint: And i'm a health and safety officer/advisor. Just be uber careful.
