I do not remember these at all but there's something cool about it's ugliness (I don't mean any harm by that). U made it look so much better with the cleanup man, it came back brilliantly. Enlighten me on the 'design Porsche' element of it

Back before Seat joined the VW group they had the "System Porsche" Engine. Basically some of the engine and gearbox components were designed by Porsche. The actually car design was ment to be the mk2 golf but VW (Rightly so) rejected the designs.

I always used to wonder exactly which 'system' was Porsche on these back when they were new!

Seat Ibiza Mk1 (21A)
This version, while it established the now classic Ibiza shape, was advertised as having "Italian styling and German engines": having its bodywork been designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro's Italdesign [3][4] and was prepared for industrialisation by the German manufacturer Karmann. It was based on the SEAT Ronda, a small family car, with a gearbox and powertrain developed in collaboration with Porsche, thus named under licence System Porsche
By the time Giugiaro was assigned to the Ibiza project, his previous proposal for the second generation of the Volkswagen Golf had been rejected by Volkswagen. So when SEAT approached him with the proposal for a spacious supermini class contender, that particular project was reincarnated as the first generation of the SEAT Ibiza

These are awesome, i had my eye on a 10k mile one on ebay a while ago but it was a bit expensive for what it was and I ended up buying a Polo. I kind of regret that seeing this baby, looks like you've got a great one.

my brother had a 1.5 SXi 3dr, great car and rapid for what it was. A little to rapid for him, he sumersaulted it into a ditch 10 days after he passed his test...
Anyway, the point being since I moved back to my parents I now have his old room, and in the window to this day we still have the only bit he kept from the wreck the 'SEAT Engine System Porsche' sticker.
cool cars, nice effort.

That thing is clean! Uber uber clean. Looks great. How did you do the headlights? Headlights just had 4 clips holding the glass in place, only a 2 min job to get them out of the car and split them!

I was a mechanic in a Seat dealer when these came out new, de-waxed a fair few of these and PDI'd them but they always had their problems. The engines were great ( apart from the small Fiat engine models, i think they were the 900cc Designers). But all models were always coming back under warranty because they had a habit of snapping the inlet pipe on the back box due to a bad design and the indicator switches constantly failed ( steering wheel off and a few self tappers and they sat in cutouts), if i remember rightly we bought them in bulk from a local plumbers as they fitted some sort of power-shower. The front and rear tracking needed doing on every one as they were set poorly from the factory. Taking all this into account, once these problems were sorted they were pretty quick and handled really well, i nearly bought one new but the figures didnn't work for a 19 year old mechanic. Looks like you got a good one there, enjoy it.
