In terms of looks, driveability and power, these ones: In terms of general coolness, these ones: In terms of the memories associated with it, this one: In terms of reliability, fun and all round member-of-the-familyness, this: I miss them all very much, for different reasons.

Actually, for the fact that it was cheap to run, pretty fast, well equipped and never broke, I should probably give this an honourable mention: ...although that isn't remotely retro. Focus on the cars in my previous post, they're much cooler.

For out and out giggles, Went thru three engines, Bloody quick and nearly got me fired for leaving an oil patch on the paving at work ;D Spent alot of money doing it and getting it right.. 1641 , engle 110 twin delortos and then standard single depending on what worked at the time.... the most reliable and pleasing car, Drove this all over the country ,put thousands on thousands of miles on it and it was faultless, Just kept looking after it and enjoyed it. Ended up leaving a few months ago wearing gt steels, trim rings and a ranger bolstered interior... Miss it alot and if i didnt have the boat it would still be here.

For general all roundy-ness it's got to be my st182 Celica gti16 I owned it for 5 or 6 years so it must've been pretty good.....the only thing that went wrong was the water pump.

For most fun. My Polo G40, had it 7 years and now really miss it, 2011 will see another on driveway ;D For most abused. My K11 Micra, bought for £50 with a scrap engine, fitted a bargain scrapyard engine and it did 20 odd thousand hard miles and never missed a beat, would have another one ;D For best work commute. Not retro at all but my Golf 20VT was a nice place to be, the Recaro's were excellent.

Hmm, good question... I'd probably have to go for my old escort as my alltime favourite. Went through various states of tune from 1.1 originally, to 1.6 when I bought it, then 1690, then 1800 and then over to pinto for a 2.0 and finally 2.1 and 5 speed. It eventually ended up as a pretty convincing RS rep, with all the correct bits inside and out, even the black headlining. Out of everything I've owned, this is the only 'wish I hadn't sold it' one. I have no photo's of it, but bizarrely I do have the clipping from the Autotrader - and this was about 14 years ago! Another car which was a belter was my 205 Mi16 - fond memories of this one as it was my first loom and engine swap and it went like a scolded cat off a hot curse word shovel! Only pic I have! Lastly, I'll just add my Mk2 'valver. Great car in every way (currently looking for another). Comfortable, fast enough, never ever broke down and did interstellar mileage. Still got the misses though! Joe

Haha, just noticed the grille on my Golf up there ^^ - you can see where I de-badged it; never noticed it at the time! That was before you could just go and buy one! Whilst I'm on; here's Zoe's favourite car out of everything she's owned. She's a Japanese aficionado and this was one of her tamer cars really, but it's easily her favourite....... MX5 nitrous injected fun machine Joe

'Best' as in most capable is my current Nissan Skyline gtr32. 'Favorite' would have been a Mk1 Ford Granada that I owned in the early 80s. It was a Roman Bronze 3.0 GL auto with the 'Caramac' coloured dash. It was fast and tight and shocked everyone who went in it; someone even suggested it had some Police spec engine and suspension. However, it's one and only previous owner had been Hoover UK. I wish I still had that car.... The actual best car I have ever owned would have to be a Sierra 2.0 dohc estate that I owned for five years, until about a year ago. I bought it on a bitterly cold November night. I knocked on the blokes door, he started it and I asked if the heater worked. He said yes, so I gave him the £300 and drove it home. In the 5 years I owned it all I did was change the oil and put on a new exhaust and a set of tyres. Caned it mercilessly and even had 3 big block Chrysler V8s in the back once. Needless to say that eventually took it's toll and the back end started to feel rather 'vague'. Went out in a blaze of glory at the Arena Essex courtesy of my neighbours.

Sadly no pics but;
205 XS - Just sublime, everything fun and awesome! It was a sad day when it went...
EG Civic hatch - was a great LSi (1.5) that I put 17k on in a year - totally reliable and unfortunately, just a little too small for two Widlets!
Would have another one of either in a heartbeat!

My '82 merc 200 was cool but broke a fair bit... My favourites a toss up between my first mini which I rallied up or my last land rover which was an ex mod series 3 with moss in the windows and a hasp and staple for a door lock! Probably the best though has to be my '96 Rover 420 Gsi. Full leather, all electric, golf gti eating performance and all for £250! Why did I sell it!?!?

No pics either but a1.7 isuzu engined astra TD, did about 30k miles on it, drove to stoke on trent from central scotland with a trailer and towed an r33 gts skyline back with it was unkillable, the clutch was slipping, the handbrake was fooked, the oil light went on everytime you went round a corner, yet the things wouldbt die, in the end an unfortunately timed sneeze and a sharp bend put an end to it !

The best CAR, I.e getting me from A-B, the Acclaim is an easy winner. But the best as in my favorite was the Dolly Sprint, it broke down, never started and bits fell off, although it was epic fun and made me smile whenever I (eventually) drove it, it sounded great too!
