Having passed my test aged 17, I've been eagerly awaiting car ownership! As I'm turning 21 in January, insuring something interesting is a reality and my Mum recently inherited some money and kindly gave me £1000 to buy a car!
My first car criteria were:
Older than me.
Rear wheel drive.
Play my all Rush mixtape.
Le Mans competitor.
So, the 924 fitted the bill!
It was a long day today, starting with snow.
And then just 1 of 4 London trains were running, so I was standing all the way to Swindon! This definitely let my standards slip for the car, almost to "as long as it starts, anything but the train."
Finally, after 5 hours, Farnborough!
I got a taxi with my Dad to the house, where we found one of the owners relatives outside. The reason for sale was a baby. I can back this up, as the owner was inside giving birth in the front room!! I had a good look around the car and then the relative took me on a drive to show it was all working. After some more time checking all the switches I made my offer of £800. The owner was then consulted and he came back out with a counter offer of £950. Given the circumstances I agreed. However, I paid £940 in the end, keeping the tenner for food and bridge tolls! As we were signing the paperwork, the midwives came out of the front room!
There were some anxious moments as my Dad pulled out of the driveway and proceeded to get lost before the M4! But then we filled it up and headed for home, as conditions got progressively worse! Time for some ironically bad photos:
The exhaust is much quieter than expected.
Home at last, just 9 1/2 hours later! (My Dad's face says it all!)
The car was flawless on the way back! Apparently it's happier at 90 than 70. Our personal highlight occured when going down a sliproad by Cardiff with a 10 plate Cayman spinning out infront of us! We then made it down with ease with some decent driving. There's one very loud squeak with the fan on, but I'm sure that's easy to sort, right?
Looking through all the reciepts, the previous owner paid £875 in February, has spent £250 on parts alone and put 4000 miles on it before selling it to me for £940. So, apart from some decals and other little jobs to learn with, it's all sorted for me to enjoy!
Future plans include:
Put the stickers on (They were removed for a respray last year)
Don't crash
Get attractive female passenger, possibly with the help of pop-up lights
Later plans:
Lower
The bigger 944 spoiler
Some nice wheels with black centres and a deep polished dish!
