I've just started playing this! Didn't realise you could get so many retro cars, definitely going to get a collecting going.
Where is the BMW 2002 from? can you remember?

The annoying thing about the game is all new cars are 'premium' and all used cars are 'standard' So if you bought a car new, you get the extra premium details : More detail graphically; an in-car/dash view, better damage and you can fit aero mods yes, and change wheels and paint them. You can only paint the main car body on standard models and they're all the used/retro cars in the game.. which is most of them.

you cant do anythin visual on the "standard model" cars other than chaning the paint colour and lowering them, which pisses me off greatly... how hard would it really have been to let you do more than that?

After being a huge GT fan since the beginning I got Need for Speed Shift when I bought my PS3 last year and my god what a game! The graphics on the cars are fantastic and the cockpit detail is insane - far superior to the GT5 interior from the screenshots and videos Ive seen. Shift actually gives you the feeling of driving very fast to the point where full throttle is genuinely clenching! You cant be flying down the Laguna Seca straight flat out in 4th and then blip it down a load of gears becuase the back end will lock and you'll spin and also the crashes feel very intense! This isnt a GT bashing post though coz like I say I had them all (still do). I bought GT5 Prologue and its....O K but just not quite right. The most annoying thing about GT for me is the way they do slower cars. What I mean is if you get a really slow (or even average) car it seems to have the same gear ratios as a faster one. In that you'll floor it off the start and it'll go "vrvrvrvrvrvrrvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr(etc..) sooo slowly and feel sssoooo sluggish and boring and you cant chuck it about coz you cant use the gears properly as the ratios are all to pot. Its like they have a button when designing it that they press that says 'slow' or 'fast' and they diobnt spend time making the slow ones driveable. Now the little engined 'slow' cars Ive had in real life in the past didnt rev like that!! They where little screamers! My 1.0 kp61 starlet was slow as fook but it didnt feel it as it screamed up the gears and was chuckable and intense - same with my Mazda 1300. At no point did that feel slow EVER (until you where traffic light dragged by a school mum in a galaxy who didnt even realise you where drag racing!) The beginning of all GT games is the same. Boring false-slow racing where your like "should I stay up another hour with matchsticks under my eyelids so I can get to a good bit of the game?? Also the fact you can win a lot of races by twatting into the walls and scooting past people which is particularly annoying on 2 player racers. ANYWAY. Has the full game of GT5 corrected any of that? If you havent played need for speed shift look at some videos of some in car view racing and youll see what I mean Here is a vid of a Charger not the best vid but you get the idea! see how much it feels like your actually racing by the seat of your pants!!

I see what you mean there daveyboy
i gave up on the PS3 after grand theft auto came out and they playability was taken away, GT always pee'd me off because the faster corners as you say could be driven flat out and touching the barriers slingshot you round.
that NFS looks great - wonder fi its as good on the xbox tho

ive not got gt5 yet and am in 2 minds whether to get it or not :/ i have just started to play my brothers forza (hes not into racing games and only got it with the console yesterday) i think it alright to be honest and i will be trying to play it alot more the thing i like about forza is that you can mod the cars to death, like rwd convert them, awd convert them. I also play nfs shift, which i think is an alright game, need to get the new one tho

Never played nfss but played gt in hmv the other day. Racing a pair of s2000's around Tsukuba. Was fun but the only notable thing was the way the cars wobbled while cornering and braking etc. other than that and the weather. i'm not really feeling it sorry. can't believe the amout of gt4 cars in it. still the good bits are awesome! just not gonna buy a ps3 for one. especially since i don't have an HD tv..

Think my retro count is near on 50 now, will try and get a pic of them all and put them in here. Realy cracking on with it now, I'm up to lvl 25 A-spec and lvl 21 B-spec. Just bought an F1 car, my god they are fast! But not in the wet on the nurburgring, I could have lapped it faster in just abut anything else. It does not like sub 80mph, and 2/3rd's of it in the wet are sub 70mph lol.
