Hey guys, the follow text is updates from another site so it may seem like I am repeating myself a bit but bear with it:
Got a fair bit done today, again mostly de-rusting, painting and waxoiling.
Fitted the painted inner arch fuel pipes, lines to the fuel rail and the plastic floorpan lines up to the rear subframe:
Fancy red lol
The painting has gone well, got a bit high though as I couldn't have the unit doors open (pouring rain)
Started work on the finer things in the bay too, I tackled the PAS pipes, the rubber sections were hovering directly over the turbo!! Using a blow torch I heated up the metal sections to change the angles and also moved the reservoir to the corner behind the N/S turret.
Almost forgot, fancy rear Omega vented discs!
More curse word! I do realise that I am doing all the fiddily behind the scenes stuff but when you don't really see any progress it doesn't help!
Anyways the new fuel pump casing was dry so I assembled it:
Old VS new
As you know the Z20LET uses a die-by-wire throttle body and pedal. So I whipped out the old unit and made up a special plate to hold the pedal sensor:
Picture is taken from the bottom of the footwell facing upward, still a curse word pic though.
Here is the factory Astra-G sensor and pedal:
Here is the same unit after much butchering:
I opted to remain the factory carlton pedal itself too
Staying in the cabin I thought it only fitting a take a picture of my mint Diamond front seats:
Rear brake bias valve installed and stealthily hidden inside the cigarette tray:
Today I finally got my custom clutch hose, went to the hydraulic shop and saw this outside:
What are the odds!! Beautiful condition and it actually gets used too! Obviously as soon as I found out its owned by the owner of the company we chatted for about an hour!
Anyways, off to the unit!
I had opted for a banjo fitment at the slave cylinder end so the hose was pointing the right way:
Once back in the car the line simply goes up the bulkhead to the Astra master cylinder:
After a lot of struggling and laying on the floor the box was installed into the car with all the new painting shiny bits no one will ever see:
Also it appears my dilemma of finding a strong enough rear diff has come to an end! Thanks to a Migweb member who provided dimensions of a monaro diff flanges....
..lol flanges...... ahem
I was able to establish that not only does a monaro diff bolt straight up in place of a carlton diff, but using the monaro half shafts these also bolt straight up to carlton s6 hub flanges!!!
Already found a 3.45:1 VXR Monaro diff and shafts with only 20K on them, picking them up in just over a week!
Right! Update time!
Picked up the Monaro diff with half shafts a week ago, its in great condition and after offering it up again my GSi diff found out that the prop is 100% compatible with the Carlton prop!! Only downside is the driveshafts are about 2 inches too long on each side, still looking to a solution for this.
Also picked up some genuine Lotus seats (front and rear), they are in good condition but still need some restoration work. The left seat is restored with the right one up next:
Also for your enjoyment a small selection of Estate pics taken at a photoshoot:
