1979 Citroen Dyane 12 months MOT Tax due for renewal at end of this month Contact O78149O3481 or PM Apologies in advance.. This is my ebay ad and I thought I'd put it up here before I put it up there (it will be listed next thur for 10 day sunday evening finish) to give you guys a heads up and to hopefully avoid the joy that is timewasting ebay eejits. For that reason, you'll have to put up with the fact that it's worded as an ebay ad and not a retro rides thread. The information is all there, just worded to appeal to the general public, not 'us lot' Hi, Welcome to this auction ad for my 1979 Citroen Dyane 6. I've just put a new MOT on it so it's ready to drive away. I've been doing over a thousand miles a month in it quite happily throughout winter (I believe cars should be used!) and I'm only selling because I'm fickle and miss my Volvo 240. I'll try to work through it logically from the oily bits outwards.. Engine The engine is excellent. I have no history for it, but was told that it was a recon unit rebuilt from a later 2cv6 engine. I think the carb may be different ( I haven't checked) but it is mechanically identical to the original engine. It pulls well, doesn't overheat and uses no oil. Starts fine from cold, idles nicely.. The only temperature related problems I've had with cold starts was when it got down to about -13 here recently. Even then, a squirt of easystart down the inlet and it was away. Obviously that was quite an extreme for this country so it has only happened the once. It's serviced to within the mileages that the specialists recommend, oil changes every 3-5k etc. (same goes with the rest of the car) Gearbox It selects all of the gears fine and stays in all the gears. It's a bit noisy and in an ideal world I'd like to have changed or rebuilt it but it has never caused any problems. I've done a quick oil change on it but I'd imagine it would benefit from being properly flushed through. Brakes I haven't paid the brakes much attention.. They work well, the handbrake works, no visible wear on the discs, passed the MOT test this week. Excellent. Steering & suspension Steering feels good and tight. I've been driving it daily and it feels good to drive. I've lowered it about 4.5" and it altered the suspension geometry a bit because it now pulls a tiny bit if you let go of the wheel. It's an hour job to return it to standard which should resolve it. Or an hour at a garage with 4 wheel alignment if you prefer it sitting lower. It's been like it for a few months and the tyres haven't worn unevenly so I've not really worried about it. It got an advisory on slight kingpin wear on the MOT, but then it did last year as well. I've been keeping the kingpins greased regularly (as well as the driveshafts and knife edges) so they don't seem to be deteriorating as long as they're kept on top of. Body Let's face it, it's proper ugly. I've always liked ugly things. It's complete and solid where it matters. There isn't a single panel without a dent or scratch. It's various shades of blue with a black wing. But as I said, it's complete and solid, a great base for restoration if that's what you're after, or for running around in if you're like me. There are welded repairs to the bulkhead and to drivers side sill. There is also a section that has been cut open for access (presumably to repair something) and then welded up underneath the back seat. It's fine for a daily driver, and is a solid base for restoration if that's what you want to do. The roof isn't original, it's a black canvas affair that is in excellent condition and doesn't leak at all. If only the same could be said for the rest of the body! I have the bumpers to go with it, they match the overall aesthetic of the vehicle though. Interior Interior is pretty good but doesn't have carpets. I have fitted mats for it, but I tend not to use them because when it does leak, I'd rather have the water evaporate away rather than being held against the floor to rot it out. The seats are in good condition but could do with a good clean. Don't forget that this is a car that's used every day, rain, sun or snow. The shelf below the dash has rusted through in a couple places due to water ingress but this isn't immediately obvious or visible Other stuff? The fuel guage has stopped working. I don't know why, and I've been more inclined to remember my mileage when I refuel and put more in at less than 200 miles to be safe. There's a sender, some wire, and a fuel guage so there isn't much to go wrong if you want to fix it.. That rusty front quarter panel. I have another one that isn't rusty that I'll throw in as well as a few other model specific spares that I got with it. Comes with a workshop manual and an owners handbook. Overall then.. A diamond in the rough, the perfectly daily driver for a mild eccentric who fancies decent (50mpg) fuel economy, a rolling resto with full MOT. Whatever you want really.. Mileage reads about 31k at the moment, but the chances of that being the first time around the clock are negligable, and its used every day for me to drive to work. I can't speak for others but my opinion is that a car of this age, without the original engine, the reading on the odometer is something of a moot point and only really of any use to an MOT tester. Viewing is welcomed and recommended. It should go without saying that you bid to buy and not to kick tyres and haggle. This IS a good car, but it's not going to win concours with a bottle of T-cut. Collection within 7 days unless otherwise arranged before the end of the auction and payment in cash only. Please call or PM if you're interested in viewing. Thanks for reading Ben O78149O3481

I've already had a PM from someone saying I've underpriced it and that I should put it on ebay, but this is a price I'd be happy with so I'll go with it and then if nothing comes up, it'll go on ebay as planned.

www.2cvtv.com/forsale.htm is a lot cheaper than Ebay! As Brian says, get it up on international 2CV friends too. Don't let Ebay take your money!

Cheers guys. I appear to still not be a member if i2CVF and haven't got my confirmation email through yet... I've gone with eBay for now. I'm a firm believer in the ebay system when you don't have bidders that don't want to buy.. And thanks for confirming that the ad is ok, it took me an hour or so and I've made a couple revisios but I think it really is worth putting up a decent ad. Go wild. It's only 99p cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150548357212

With an auction running, it's only fair to honour it so we will call it withdrawn from sale for now

I've had a few bids..
However: Ebay are likely to cancel your auction as you have made the error of keyword spamming (not 2cv ami etc)...
eBay get the raging hump with it, and are likely to pull your auction with no warning. Annoying when you've got lots of bids or questions.

I tend to list vehicles with classified ads on ebay so I escape the outrageous comission fees, and the bidders with less than good intentions. Unless I intend to pull something from auction early for a cash sale, which I usually do!

Annoying when you've got lots of bids or questions. I was not aware that it was actually disallowed but have just searched through to try to find their policy and got there eventually.. I wouldn't have found it if I wasn't looking for it specifically. It appears you can't alter the title at all so I'll have to see what happens. To be honest, I don't normally do that, but with it essentially being a 2CV, it seemed pretty logical.. Next time I'll just have to refer to it as a 2cv derivative.

Just had an email from eBay, guessing it was because I was one of the bidders - says your auction has been pulled.

Indeed. I want the auction to finish at the same time as originally so it will be going up for 5 days tomorrow night. What an annoyance. Ah well, lesson learnt and hopefully it will mean one of you guys gets a bargain out of it (or make me an offer in the meantime )
