Got a lot of love for S12's proper cool cars. As other have said DO the bearings and oil pump! It's no more difficult than the actual engine swap your planning and it's piece of mind. IMO, some live, some don't. I reckon it's mostly down to people not changing the oil and not being careful from cold, and let's be honest, S13s are now owned by people who would rather spend more on their drift setup than basic maintenance, which will only help in exposing an engine's weak points. I've never owned an S13, but I've got 3 mates who've owned several. All of them are into drifting and all have serviced and cared for various CA's to quite ridiculous levels, and they have all experienced bottom end issues. So I reckon your dim view of a drifters idea of servicing is unfair. A decent crank ventilation setup is important, to safe guard against bottom end failure.

Sierra - here we go again! He has an illness, it's not his fault.

Maybe a myopic view I admit, although the drifters near here seem to be of the ilk I described from a certain establishment (6,000rpm on a cold engine anyone?). That's not to say I do not know of drifters who do care of their cars either. I based my view on that, and a friend's S13, which despite its great mods when he bought it, had many basics missed in its upgrades. Maybe, just maybe it's a more serious problem than I thought in light of new info. I apologise for my 'dim' view .

Some would call it ruining a classic car and many would call it weight reduction. I didnt have an idea how much unnecessary curse word is in the car. stinky carpet Just a fraction of the stuff removed from behind the dash.

You can't rear rear seats in a 2door with fixed front seats anyway. I plan to do the same but carpet the whole lot and keep it tidy.

Seat, 3 point harness and Nismo knob engine loom, ECU and other bits, got pretty much everything I need to carry the conversion.

Wow, this brings back memories I had one of these a couple of years ago that I had planned to get into drifting with, but it ended with no inspiration so I sold it and got back to the real project that I've been working on on and off for 6 years now! A 76 Kadett But as a couple of guys have already said! The bearings and oilpump are week spots on the CA18 engines! The ET engine is even weaker than the DET so swapping it is a smart choice! An oilcooler (a real one, not the stock one wich doesn't do any good really) is also a good investment! If you get the urge for drifting, swapping the frontlegs for S13 or S14 gives you more steeringlock AND a whole lot of coilovers to chose from! It's an easy mod S14 legs give more lock than S13's. In the rear you could prob use universal coilovers if you make a new topmount, they are cheap! Also mod the outer mount for the controlarm in the rear so you can adjust the camber a bit. You just slot the mounting hole in the arm, but a washers on adjust and weld the washer to the arm. A common mod in the states that seem to work good

I do have an oilcooler ready for it. Id go for s14 legs by that would make it 5 stud unless i find NA s14. I will try to find some Alternative rear setup. How did you do wit mounting the new seat btw ? I hear rails can be a problem as one sits on the transmisson tunnel or some such. It was a bit curse word cos the rails are not in level, so I used them as brackets, put some bars across in level, used some universal runners. hope it make sense. thats a nice whip friend, I think its exactly the same shade of blue on my bluebird Thank you. its getting there

If you find them you can use 5-stud Z31 rear arms to match up to the 5-stud S14 front. Also gives a wider rear track (again, matches the s14) and vented rear brake discs. That's what I'm about to bolt upto mine.

There are almost no nostalgia wheels in 5-stud save the odd set of meshes and I don't care much for them.

That's a lovely wee Datsun you've got there, and if the Micra was anything to go by, this should turn out nicely too!
