Mk10 Jaguar STOLEN My wife’s beloved 1966 Mk10 Jaguar 4.2 Automatic has been stolen from the Buckingham area. She has owned it for 19 years and had been restoring it slowly over time. It is dark blue with flat paint and an interior that is a mixture of black leather seats, grey vinyl door cards and no carpets. The dashboard woodwork is peeling and the sunvisors have sagged and don’t move. It is a rather scruffy car, with repair panels to the rear lower front wings, new sills in black primer and patch-welded floors. The fuel lines were disconnected and there was no battery on the car, also it had two flat tyres, but someone managed to take it away anyway. My wife is devastated. The car has a stainless steel exhaust and copper brake pipes, but no brake fluid reservoirs and the handbrake doesn’t work. The wheels are devoid of hubcaps and there is no brightwork around the front and rear screens. The numberplates were left behind and the car was the target; the thieves cut through two padlocked farm gates to get to it and moved a non-running Triumph Herald out of the way to load the car onto their conveyance. Nothing else was touched. Someone keen to make a few £££ out of the banger racing community seems an obvious choice, but any other ideas? All information received with thanks, 07971 052025.

If you think its gone to the track then attend a few meetings and see if it turns up you don't know you might even enjoy the day out

Good news - Bad news Back in January my wife had her Jaguar MK10 project car stolen, which she had for 19 years. After posting it on many forums and making local enquires we got a call to say that someone had unknowingly bought her car and arranged to meet us in a car park but never showed. After further enquires a friend got a call to say we could have it back for £250, half what he had paid. A few more days passed and today the friend was called again to say it was dumped in a lay-by. The Good news is she has got it back the bad news is a lot of damage has been done. Chris

Is it not possible to trace the number? Iirc, even if they called off a phone with a hidden number, the operator can still find out who it is for the Police... Sorry to see it in such a state.

That's painful. At least you've got it back. Is your wife prepared to "start over" with it?
Removing the glass and cutting back the wings; is that not banger racing prep?

excellent news you've got it back, but wings cut up like that? looks like it was about to go round your local close-contact racing circuit... Edit: what he said above ^

Glad to hear you got it back. I am so very surprised to see it looking as if it was prepared for some kind of contact 'motorsport'

I instantly thought bangers as soon as I saw no windows and cut wing as well.
may be in a bit of a state but at least its still looking like a car. I bet that the "victim" who bought it for £500 had something to do with stealing it, by saying that they get £250 out of it. common scam Ive heard about. Might not be, might have been an innocent buyer but I would have been wary with no logbook.

Not all banger drivers are theifs , I would say 99% work hard to fund a sport they love.

God I know thats true because I'm friends with a lot of banger drivers and none of them have ever used stolen cars. But like you say cornish 99%, theres always that 1%. Might have been a true story about innocent buyer but the fact that after they said they wanted £250 for it it was dumped sounds a bit suspicious. Might not be by all means, just sounds a bit iffy.

Destined for the track without a doubt, I'm not wading into the argument about bangers being/not being thieves though.

is it repairable? are the bits off the car still around? personally I'd get it cubed and post pictures as a two finger jesture to the git that knicked it. there are some nice MOT'd ones out there that'll be cheaper to buy than restore this one but I do understand that there will be sentimental value having owned the car for so long.

My guess is they got wind of you launching a big 'enquiry' and panicked! glad shes home though xxx

Good to see it back, even if the condition is somewhat undesirable. Not all banger drivers are theifs , I would say 99% work hard to fund a sport they love. What are the 99% doing about this. As a moderator on here I end up deleting comments at the request of banger racers who hate the fact that when a Granada/A60 or Jag gets nicked the finger points at them. The trouble is that the pointy finger often ends up being right. If this car had turned up at the track would the 99% have stopped the driver racing, banned him from future events and called the police? In a close-knit community like banger racing I find it hard to believe that no-one knows who was prepping this car.

sadly the 1% of idiots who pinch cars, are also the 1% thatl burn your place down if they think someone has grassed on them.
