Hello all, by way of introduction heres my work in progress. Started out as and then (I might have bought a new shell ) Got the front windscreen in now. Just gotta fit other windows, front seats, carpet etc, stereo, front anti roll bar, figure out why engine won't start and then polish it and its done! (maybe a few more wee jobs than just that tho!) Obviously its not standard so quick spec sheet: 2.2 engine from a carlton with R1 bike carbs and 5 speed gearbox brake discs from an audi 80, calipers from a vectra 30mm lowered and adjustable avo shocks polybushed to make it as uncomfortable to drive as possible front seats are being reupholstered and are from a manta B GTE and remote locking .

Been following your progress on the Mig Welding forum. Its incredible what you have achieved when I look back at that picture of a lump of twisted red rust sitting in a field at the start of the thread. Well done indeed sir and keep up the good work and the updates.

Looks really evil! Great job! Is the black filler or is it staying? It suits it really well, aero wheels would finish it off nicely, and give it a sinister racey look

Cheers all! The black is staying. Was gonna go with ats or revolution wheels. Gotta be deeper wheels for this car I reckon. Modern alloys look wrong. And my welding ain't that great, I'm just handy with an angle grinder

Still no finished this thing. Brakes are proving troublesome and are either failing the mot, or trying to kill me. As it is now: So far its had a new master cylinder, and a replacement servo.

She's beautiful! I always wanted one of these! Love the shed with a view too! A nice set of staggered centerlines would look nice and give it the "muscle" look...

Its changed a lot since I last updated this thread. Still doesn't drive tho! The brake issue was the replacement servo was knackered. On coasting it pulled the pedal to the floor. Replaced it with a brand new servo from a polo. Its been repainted in 2k cos the cellulose was terrible. (plus my prepwork had been atrocious!) The carbs are long gone. After I got it through the mot, the heat from the exhaust manifold melted a bit of rubber on the fuel bowl vent and set it on fire. Luckily my fire extinguisher I bought 45 minutes before was close to hand! Cleaned off the engine, fitted many heatshields and all seemed ok. Next journey over 10 miles say me break down as it just lost power until the engine died. Turns out the ignition module was overheating and retarding the ignition more and more. New ignition module was fitted with heatsinks, and off I went again. Then the carbs started backfiring, blew apart one of the metal gauze sock filters and then blew the whole set of carbs off the manifold. Managed to get it back home where the carb setup was ripped out and flogged. Put in the original 2.2 injection system. Got it running, was due mot. en route it kinda broke down. Got it home, had injectors tested and cleaned, new plugs etc. set off again. Broke down again. Injectors had stopped pulsing and were jammed on. Local garage got their injection guru (apparently he liked to build classics and beach buggies etc with injection) but he couldn't find the fault and they weren't going to spend long on it as it'd cost a fortune. I tried a new ecu, new sensors, checked wiring, ripped it all out and fitted megasquirt. Was running almost fine until I noticed the sump was full of water. So, new head gasket on and it doesn't idle by itself anymore. I think its because the megasquirt hasn't been setup for cold starts yet. Was a bit warmer when I had it running first time. Hopefully I can get some time on it over the xmas holidays and get the damn thing running, or the missus will lose what little patience she has left and push me to get rid of it. I'll need to see if I can find some photos.

I did ponder the ol' xe route, but its about a grand to get it all running in the manta. Of course I've spent more than that on the engine over time, but its not something I can afford. Unless someone has a 1800 gearbox, sump + pickup, engine mounts and an xe lying spare they want to give away for free Oh, and the downpipe.
