thought there would be more to say on it in the last 4 hours than it cost too much. I purposely left it alone in the hope some other people could go scout for some intersting info on it or others? For what its worth. Just been reading on another site, That it Achives its amazing mpg, With help from a tiny little carb from a lawnmower www.race-cardrivers.com/Shell%20Opel.htm

376MPG...! For a car that size! If I read it right, the rekord was set at about 30MPH?
Very interesting thing. It looks like the carb is feed it's air from the rocker cover?

Sorry Retrowagen, I was reading this last night & little 'un woke up. Mrs Dungbug had nabbed the laptop when I left to put little 'un back to bed......Only just remembered this thread. ;D From the title I was expecting something tiny, looks like they've saved on the overall weight inside & out. Quite unbelievable mpg when a modern day manufacturer would proudly boast a third of that mpg with pride. Anyone got any other links/info on this, quite a fancy reading further on it. About the price, well same as our for Sale section. If it's too high then don't buy. I'm pretty sure the guy selling it could say in all truthfulness "you won't find another like it"

Quite unbelievable mpg when a modern day manufacturer would proudly boast a third of that mpg with pride. ...but keep in mind that this was a experimental car specifficaly designed fo the most MPG on a salt flat... Absolutely undrivable on the streets (not with 376MPG). And look at the figures today's cars of the same concept/kind achieve! www.shell.com/home/content/ecomarathon/about/current_records/

I was trying to figure out that rocker cover too. Very strange. I think the device above it is to vapourise the fuel prior to the carb. But why it then follows down into the rocker? strange...

Thtats interesting , there was an atricle in ppc I think about a guy in the states doing something similar to stock road cars and getting good power and economy. cannot remember whta his name was but it stuck in my head ... some thing with heated fuel lines or turbos that varorised the fuel before it got to the carb and it was running a tiny radiator and insulation. I belive his daughter now has the rights to his designs which he kept secret, ring a bell with anyone ?

Lots of these home bru builders being silenced... One guy fed pressurised fuel thru a gauze filter, That vapourised it and just used a large throat carb to meter it, And tiny jets so it still had a dribble of fuel going the normal route to stop it going lean. Got silly mpg With a 300 odd CI v8

Yeah, But isnt cold air more oxygen rich? which would give a better bang I guess that depends on what you aim for... Better bang or better economy/more MPG I never measured it, but I think my MPG improofed when I hooked up my water heated inlet manifold on the Mini. Never measured it though... Found this a while ago, a 1927 vapourising carb:

As i have been saying for years, warm air inlets are better for road cars, cold air is for race cars.
If cold air feeds improved road cars then they would all have ram air systems, its a pretty cheap and easy mod for a manufacturer should they wish to fit one.
They are around on sports bikes, but not on the commuter or touring models funnily enough, bit of a clue there i'd say.

As I have been saying for years, warm air inlets are better for road cars, cold air is for race cars. I can confirm that that there is not a single ounce of truth behind that
