I was impressed with the food at the Orwell truck stop when I went last year. I'd go but then it's no different in time/distance to the 8 Ball for me.
Surely we could pick a pub and just turn up, it's not like we do burnouts in the car park...

the food at the orwell is multiple award winning from what ive heard. they're not short of parking and its easier/safer to get in and out of too.
its not really any different in time/distance for me either, I wonder if it would draw any of the suffolk lot out if we had it there?
I did enquire about using a couple of chain-pub type places, thinking theyd be happy of the extra midweek custom, but mention 'car club' and I got a couple of outright 'NOs', even with me selling it as a classic car club for grown up rather than kids in saxos.
I was trying to keep it on a major A-road to make it easy to find, and not too much of a pita to get to. I just don't know of any 'car friendly' pubs round this way though, in fact all the pubs seem to be disappearing at a worryingly fast rate! there was one in stratford st mary that used to do the M&R meetings and laods of biker stuff that was great, landlord was a top boke too, but its shut down now.

Orwell truck stop I could definately make it to! Very close for me. I've been to a couple of other club meets there, Plenty of space . Good food and the occasional band on.

I've been saying the Orwell Truck Stop since the start, It's perfect for me as it's only 10 minutes from my house! But in all seriousness I recon it could be a winner, It's easy to get to from Norfolk and Cambridgeshire as well as Essex, and there's plenty of parking and there's always a white Trans Am outside which I think belongs to the owner, hell they even have the burn out competition there when the Nationals are on in Ipswich. I could go up there and ask permission if we can hold it there if everyone else is keen?. www.orwellcrossing.com/

wont be able to make it to the orwell truck stop in the escort i just couldnt justify the fuel cost did £60 going to the mersey island show that was a day show so worth the trip an evening at a pub where 10 15 people may or may not turn up i just couldn't do . best of luck with it though and if it does take off there i'll deffo make the run in the victor once its done of even the consul if i don't get carried away with it lol

on a side not though if anybody is interested in a well established meet with cool cars the dick turpin pub on the a127 have a very good turnout on a Wednesday evening as long as the weather is good but get there early if you want to get in the car-park as it can get very rammed very quickly

the consul if I don't get carried away with it lol /\ /\ /\ Clearly not going to happen ;D Might have to check out the Turpin meet, is it every Wed's? The www.orwellcrossing.com/ place looks great though the 4 hour and 180 mile round trip would limit my own attendance, unless they have surplus cooking oil going spare ;D

I'd be a definite for meeting at Orwell truck stop as it's 5 minutes from me. Trigger is happy to ask the owner and I've already offered to go with him. I know owner's a car guy and often has mini meetings up there, albeit for American metal. All tarmac'd too so at least this poxy weather can't ruin the venue leading up to a meet!

If you are all up for this then I'll go and have a word with the owner like Roo says, I just need to know people will go or I'll look like a right tit if no one turns up!.
If we keep it to a Thursday still they have a live band on too, It looks ideal to me!.

It's not been forgotten about, I plan on going up about February time to have a chat with the owners, I think the meet would stand a better chance of getting established if we start it in better weather, more people will be inclined to come along then.

Also whilst I think of it anybody in the East Anglia region on Facebook, we have a group called East Coast Retros which caters for local retro car lovers, we have also been discussing running the Orwell Truck Stop next year for the local meets which will hopefully both coincide with each other, our group members and RR. . www.facebook.com/groups/EastCoastRetros/
