Managed to grab a quick ten mins at lunch and did all the CAD work And by CAD work, I do of course mean, laying everything on its side on an old piece of kitchen worktop and drawing round it I then looked at the picture of the frame i'm making. Nice curve at the back, what do we having in the garage, ah the Scamp steering wheel. Drew round it to get the main shape of the frame, then filled the other bits in with a ruler. So, it's tight, real tight, but these bike are meant to be. I'll have to get creative with the jackshaft location to gear it down, but I think we're good to go

Was having a look online as you do and was marveling at how short these things are, mine at 600mm is larger than I wanted, but it just wouldn't fit any shorter. Hold up, i'm an idiot, lifted the engine up to its final height and rolled the back wheel under the carb I've now got an axle to axle length of 540mm - sweet

Right! The plan has been made I'm building a vintage 'Tom Thumb' mini bike using the Suffolk Punch engine The frame we'll be copying Now my wheel and tyre combo are a little bigger than the ones shown. They're still 4 inch wheels, but the tyres are a little bigger in diameter and width Vintage bikes seeming use an 8.5 inch tyre with a 2.5-3 inch width, the ones I have are 10 inch diameter and 4 inch width. So it will still look the same, but i'll have a bit more comfort and ground clearance. I've 'mocked up' the length i'd like it to be - I say mocked up, place a wheel either side of an engine isn't taxing - and hopefully I can keep the axle centres at 600mm like they are here, or hopefully even shorter. Some pictures of the powerhouse, no doubt just for my reference, but hey. The engine dimensions (again for reference) 310mm from engine mount to top of sparkplug 300mm width from pull start to end of crankshaft 270mm front to back (including carbs and exhaust) 110mm engine plate width, you can set the engine between frame rails to a depth of 18mm to lower engine 36mm crankshaft length The engine is 75cc and makes roughly 1.1hp at 3000rpm They make the most awesome sound at idle as can be heard in this video @ 35 seconds in I think it will probably do around 12mph - perfect

There is another option Use the 2 barrow wheels and build an ever cooler version of the Welbike ParaTrooper bike We have a 140cc PitBike engine, so it would be hilarious, proper 5 speed, manual clutch jobbie I've played with PotatoShop and I reckon with short bars and maybe a cafe seat it would be nuts Yeah, it's not quite the vintage mini bike, but If we kept the frame tight around the engine and use the 10inch wheels (pretty sure the Welbike has 12s) it would still be tiny

Calm down lads 😂
It'll do about 10mph, not sure Punch engines are known for putting out huge horsprs.
A hamster wheel? Can I have some of what you're having 😂

I figured I'd best start a new thread for this I've shelved the Mini Mini Scamp for the time being to concentrate on the actual Scamp as what I have planned will take a fair bit of fabrication But I still need toilet transport I really enjoyed knocking about on the Tomos, 2 wheels really smoothed out the rough ground, so I figured a motorbike it should be. But you know, motorbikes are boring, mopeds are obviously much cooler, but still, you can just buy them, also I really wanna build something. Which brings me to one of these, a Mini Bike. As popular in America as shooting up a primary school, but weirdly not over here I just so happen to have a 75cc Suffolk Punch engine as you do. It's got a nice vintage look to it, probably because it's pretty vintage It makes exactly fuckall power, but it pop pop pops along whilst doing so, so it's ideal Mini bikes appear to mostly use 10inch barrow wheels, so a good place to start is to buy some of them. But hold on, driving up the road the other day I spy this dumped along with some other bits of steel on someones driveway. I of course stole it What I have there is a Wolf Garten Scooter What that means in reality is I have 4 10inch barrow wheels, 2 of them are attached to an axle with a differential, the other 2 handily have roller bearings I also have a working 190cc engine and a Peerless 3 speed/R gearbox, but they'll get sold for cash money The choice now is, build a 2 wheel Mini Bike as above, or use the axle to build a Sidecar Mini Bike like this I kinda like the fact i'd be able to stop and leave it somewhere without it falling over if it was 3 wheeled, plus it makes it eligable for the Sunday track run, so lets make it 3 wheeled. The 'Scooter' died for this, but i'm not bothered, it was an odd thing and it was free anyways Let me have your thoughts, persue with the sidecar (it wont have a cooler on it) or make it 2 wheeled?

After a lengthy discussion with barstoolracer we have decided to put the MMS into the shed and forget about it for a while. The new plans for it are both lengthy and expensive The plan now is to concentrate on the actual Scamp, get the new engine mounted and hopefully running for the Weekender, though that is a fair push. The Mini bike will be made in any spare time. There's really not much to them, granted, i'm making it a sidecar type, but that shouldn't add much complication

I’d love to buy a mini bike frame, but they just don’t seem to be a thing over here.
I’m going Stratford autojumble on Sun, see what’s about

Hold up
Turns out the rear axle bearings on the quad are 30mm, so I can use a kart axle and keep the kart wheels, but have it jacked up and then sticking out.
Also, the front spindles are 17mm, which just so happens to also be kart sized, so my front hubs will just bolt on.
This also means I can get another set of rear wheels for the front, so they'll be the same size.
I think it could be the new plan???

I cut what I needed from the quad chassis I eyed it up against the MMS, damn it will make it huge. Got me some decisions to make now I was hoping to flip these spindle mounts Around like this As it would narrow the front end 100mm, but the bottom one interferes with the arm, so it would have to be the full 850mm width. I could of course fit the kart wheels that are on it already. The front end would be as easy as bolting the kart spindles and hubs on. The rear a little harder as they're setup for 30mm axles and the quad uses a tiny axle and weird bolt on hubs

I've been thinking lots about this and I have a few things lying about to make a start on what's in my head First lets talk about the mini bike. I really want a mini bike, it's a bike, that's mini right. I was driving up my road the other day and this was left out for scrap, I of course chucked it in the van. A few minutes at home confirmed it ran What we have is a Wolf Garten Scooter. A very random mower/motorbike/quad thingy I could do it up a little and sell it or play with it as is, but it has a few things on it that would be ideal for a mini bike (bear with me) The wheels are vintage mini bike size, 4 inch wheels, 10 inch tyres. But there's 4 of them and 2 of them are attached to an axle I hear you shout. Well, it turns out the rear axle is chain driven and it has a diff It also turns out mini bikes with sidecars were a thing back in the day as well Look at it; amaze I'll need to do some measuring but I think something like the above will work. It wont be as wide, maybe just a foot plate where the cooler is above. Oh, it also has a 3 speed plus reverse gearbox, which would be nice as I could have slow and torquey if someone's standing on it and all the speeds if i'm on the flat on my jones. I'd have to take a looksee though, because the engine that runs it is a vertical shaft, which means my little Suffolk can't be used and the plastic covered wibblepoo that came with the mower would have to be done and it's just not very vintage. So, that's that. Now lets talk about the Mini Mini Scamp The main issue I had is it runs go-kart wheels and tyres and no suspension. This meant it was the sketchiest thing i've ever driven in my life, the slightest bump pulled the steering from one way to the other. I had to have a week off the gym as my forarms were genuinely fecked It also right battered my little bottom If you have a decent memory, you may remember at the start of this thread, I have the remains of the quad which gave up it's engine I've done some measuring and I reckon it will work out The MMS is 550mm wide currently, the quad rear axle is 720mm and the front is currently 850mm. I can flip the spindles to get that down to 750mm So, 200mm wider than the MMS currently. That's a good thing though, should make it more stable. It means a massive rework of the chassis, but it's all do-able I'd have big balloon tyres and suspension, plus i'd gain front brakes It will of course be more of a caracature of the real Scamp, but it's a sacrifice i'll make for comfort and safety (It's not fun trying to miss expensive and cool cars) Oh, and it will look a bit like this Your thoughts?

Had a blast on this at RRG Best Toilet Transport in a long list Question is, do I finish and refine it (and store it) or do I cut it's face off, make it look like a Mini Moke and sell it for many pennies and move on to the next one? I fancy a pocket bike and sidecar setup with a vintage engine I have a little 1.1bhp, 75cc Suffolk engine, which sounds glorious boggling away It would be slooooooow though, but that's ideal as toilet transport

Sooooooo I think she's as far as i'll get to take her before the Gathering There is, as always, a few things i'm not happy with. The seat is grim, I used the wrong stitch type and it's pulling in weird shapes The front wheels look so smol, I wanted to use rear wheels and tyres, but the steering lock would be compromised, but I might have to just do it and see how she goes. She has no arches as yet. I have the steel, but probably not the time to make them, the fronts are compicated at best. Here's a mockup of the rears, you can see they will really make everything pop I think making 4 of them will take a fair few hours and i've got to pack my van and go shopping etc, so we'll see

Grabbed a couple of hours Bodywork! Mounted her face permanently. I think the lights are a little smol, they'll get changed in the future I cut out and tidied up the bonnet, dash top panel and the 'drivers side' body panels Getting there now. I still have to do the other side and the rear panel and paint it all up. I really really need to sort out some inner arches as you get peppered with stones. These will have to be glued in as I can get in with the drill anymore
