Three years later...
I sold this one to a friend in a deal for a mk1 Mondeo. He nearly scrapped it due to the difficulties in sourcing a replacement steering rack. It was spared that fate, then fully sorted at the specialist near Bradford, and was sold onto a chap not too far away from me near Darlington. I bumped into him at a car show on Sunday, and we had a good chat about the car and it's future...

On looks alone the Mondeo Mk2 had much bigger cajones. Am sure the Merc is a better car but..... just sayin' I am happy to say those bigger cajones are mine now Lovely looking Merc there though Dan. Unusual in red? Don't remember seeing too many in that colour

SOLD, SOLD, SOLD I'm thinking of moving my lovely mk1 Mondeo on. The only reason I'm selling is that I have bought Mercdan68's lovely mk2 Mondeo, and I don't need two. It's a really early one, registered in June '93, just three months after they replaced the Sierra in March '93. Its a pleasure to drive, which is why I recently bought it back from a friend who bought it from me about 18 months ago. The only real issue with it is the dented drivers door, which was caused a while back by some scrote who tried to crowbar their way in. Despite that, the door closes and locks fine, and the electric window goes up and down fine. There's barely any wind noise from it either, so it's just aesthetics really. There is a replacement door (in blue colour) with the car to go on at some point, which wasn't that easy to source. 1993 Ford Mondeo 2 litre GLX Manual 5 door hatch MOT until 8th October 2023 129k miles (did 96k of those miles in it's first 3 years) Regency Red Original GLX wheel trims present (rare) Unmarked and super comfy velour interior Front electric windows Power steering Central locking (with key) Manual tilt & slide sunroof Two keys Excellent tyres all round (2 Toyos and 2 Continental) Tons of history including original bookpack and service manual containing tons of service stamps Very solid car. Underneath in amazing condition. Car is in Saltburn TS12 I'm looking for offers around £1600.

I love the Mk1 Mondeo, for me the best looking version both inside and out. I had a white 2.0 GLX about 15 years ago. One of the best driving cars I have ever had. I would buy another in a heartbeat My mk1 is now for sale as I don't need two. Just saying :-)

It's five years this week since I opened the first shop. Can't quite believe that. Anyway, I've been running the two shops for about two and a half years, and during that time, my mental health has taken a real hit. Not being able to switch off from the businesses has pretty much crushed my spirit. I'm exhausted and a bit moody, both of which are just not usually 'me'. Massive congratulations on recognising the effect it was having on you and successfully stepping back! Honestly, that in itself is a real achievement. I ran the restaurant a mixture of part time and full-time for just over 8 years and it absolutely wrecked me. Anxiety, depression, I just became a bit of a s**t person to be around day-to-day. Always expecting to get called in and sort things out. I left the business in April last year and went back to being a web developer. I never thought I'd be happy to work in an office again but here I am! I will say one positive outcome is that while seeking help for my mental health I was diagnosed with ADHD and now I'm medicated the office work is a LOT easier to deal with. It hit me last week just how much happier I am on a fundamental level when I came home and the front door was locked. It happens all the time as my wife locks it if she's putting my son to bed. It's dark, I can't see easily, I've got my hands full, I've not got a lot of room to move around in the porch, but I get my keys out and unlock it. No problem. A couple of years ago it would have really curse word me off and put me in a right foul mood. I'd be muttering about how much I hate the front doors (they are curse word, but they're just doors), how difficult everything has to be etc. I went in and sat on the sofa and apologised to my wife for letting things get into that state. You started this thread complaining about how your boss was making money off your labour and not paying you enough. I used to feel the same, but now I feel like f**k it, they can keep the extra because I get to go home happy and they have to sit at home in the evening and worry about payroll, utilities, rent, rates, insurance, accounts, tax... it's very liberating working for yourself but it comes at a cost. Kudos for finding a better balance for yourself! Summed it up perfectly. I'm glad you changed direction and found a bit of inner peace.

OK guys, update as promised.
There was one day I remember that stands out in about the Spring of '22. I wasn't rota'd in for this particular day, which I think was a Saturday. Anyway, the usual thing happened where I get a message about 7am from someone saying they weren't feeling well and they wouldn't be coming in. A few messages later and I still had nobody, so I had to cancel my plans, which I involved going to visit my daughter and young grandson who we don't see too often. The shift was a busy one, and at the end of it I had to head over to shop #2 to sort the till which had decided to crash during the day. I got home about 6pm, and that evening we had tickets to see Amy McDonald at Stockton. I just remember standing in the bedroon, in my undies, and I just didn't know what to do. Couldn't move. Julie came in and sat me on the bed. We missed the gig. That, I think, was the day I decided enough was enough, and I/we needed our lives back.
The businesses went on the market in December. I got a message from someone whose daughter used to work for me in the first couple of years, pre-Covid. She was wondering if there were any part time jobs going. Well, there was, but I obviously told her that I was selling the businesses. To cut a long story short (not something I'm good at!), she has ended up buying the Guisborough shop, and takes over this coming Wednesday (1st Feb). It's worked out really well, as that is the shop I do the shifts behind the counter. The Saltburn shop takes care of itself day to day, and I do the admin/back office stuff.
I have an operation on my left foot on 7th February, and I'll be in plaster for six to eight weeks, so it's really fallen into place with selling the Guisborough shop. Things I used to do for the Saltburn shop, such as shopping, laundry, part cooking bacon and sausage have all been distributed out, and apart from the computer stuff which I can do whilst off my feet recovering, Saltburn should take care of itself. Of course, I'm hoping that Saltburn sells in the near future too though.
Short term is recovery from the operation. The medium term plan, once the second shop sells, is to get a little part time job, maybe three days a week, driving a small van locally delivery flowers, prescriptions or car parts. Well, that's the plan!
Thanks for following this thread by the way. I'll update again soon.
