Holy thread resurrection Batman!!
I thought you’d like to see some pictures of our epic roadtrip last year.
Soon after leaving sunnyish Scotland, we reached southern England and the first queues.
Skip France, Belgian floods, some autobahns and we made it to Hallstatt in Austria. Beautiful!
Then after a stop over at my friend’s in Czech Republic, through Poland. Who knew Poland had all these brand new motorways? Like billiard tables and not a car in sight. You could probably sit at 130mph for mile after mile here…probably.
And then stop dead at the Ukrainian border where you get stuck for 4 hours.
Ukraine finally.
Kiev. The furthest I have ever driven.
The reason for coming here. Amazing!
Ok, enough of Kiev, time to go.
Don’t drive your car in Ukraine folks. Just believe me. Worst roads in Europe.
So, after another border crossing and experiencing the rudest, most awful people on the Ukrainian border, we crossed into Romania and met the most lovely people. The guard there was far more interested in my Android head unit than anything else. He told us he had an E39 and wanted one for it too. Also notable were the Bosnian border guards who were incredibly excited I had a V12 BMW, and insisted I spin the wheels as I left. I seriously thought I was going to get shot at as I lit up the back tyres launching away from the booth. Looked like I was making a run for it as the two guards cheered. Crazy!
The real reason for cutting through Ukraine. The Transfăgărășan. Bucket list stuff. Took about 5 hours to drive it. Amazing!
Through Serbia. Not a road sign you’ll see often I suppose.
And into Kosovo. We were advised not to go to Kosovo, but really, along with the Romanians, the most welcoming, friendly people I have met.
And they have a Merc dealer every couple of hundred meters. For real. I’ve never seen so many!
Montenegro was lovely.
And we stopped at my friend’s old work for lunch.
Ferry across the bay and off to get the ferry in Split to Italy.
Well. We had 3 hours which was plenty. But as we crossed a timezone, we actually only had 2 hours. This was NOT plenty! Fortunately, Croatia also has some wonderful new motorways with no cars. Photo taken on a private test track.
We made it with about 10 minutes to spare. Phew!
Welcome to Italy. Lucky I packed my bikini.
Portofino was stunning, if you could fit. Or park. Or stop. Or even slow down enough to take a picture.
Turin was an amazing city, and not like the Italian Job at all. We even saw this beauty parked in the hotel car park, next to an old Alfa Romeo.
North into the Alps.
Seriously, who doesn’t love the Alps?
Home through Germany.
With a stop over in Karlsruhe.
Once we got home, I swapped my insurance over to my 740 and parked the 750 up. She’s been sitting there ever since. Not sure what to do with her now. Sell? MOT again and use on another road trip? Who knows.
Hope you enjoyed folks!
